Congratulations, West Springfield High School Class of 2024!
We are so proud of you!
Greetings, Irving Families!
We have had an exceptional week of celebrating our current and former students. Pictured above are almost 300 of our former students from the Class of 2024 who stopped by on Wednesday for the annual Graduation Walk! It is one of my favorite traditions - we are so proud of these students!
We look forward to celebrating our 8th grade students tonight at the 8th grade celebration! Next week we will be having fun with all of our students at our annual Team Day - part field day/part team celebration with a little treat at lunch in between. We look forward to celebrating the end of another successful school year.
A couple of things to note as we look to close out the year.
- We will dismiss at 12:15 pm on Wednesday, June 12 and ask that students do NOT bring backpacks to school on this day - to include string backpacks- unless they have a medical need or an accommodation that requires a backpack.
- We have A LOT of lost and found still left! Please ask your child to check the Lost and Found for their lost items. Our Lost and Found will be open on Thursday June 13 and Friday, June 14 from 8:00-2:00. Any items remaining after Friday, June 14 will be donated.
Lastly, below is an important survey we would love for you to complete regarding our after school programming. Today is the last day to complete the survey. Please click the link below.
Take Care!

Irving Stays After - After School Program
The After School program at Irving Middle School provides students access to high-quality activities in a safe environment for all students. The Program strives to improve academic performance, foster social, emotional, and physical well-being, all while reducing the potential for risk-taking behaviors.
Thank you to the students and teacher-sponsors that participated in the after school program this school year.
Below is a link for a quick survey about the Middle School After-School Program. The survey should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. The survey is an important component of the after-school program evaluation and is critical for future funding. The more responses we receive, the more valuable and reliable the data. The responses not only allow us to assess the impact of the after-school program but they help drive program improvement and program quality.
Thank you for completing the survey and for your support of the after-school program. This survey is FCPS approved. Approval Number is 24234.
All survey responses are due by June 7, 2024.

Virtual Mental Wellness Consultations
This summer, the FCPS Office of Intervention and Prevention Services will offer virtual Mental Wellness Consultations from Monday, June 24, through Friday, August 2. Any FCPS parent or secondary student will have an opportunity to schedule a 45-minute consultation with a school psychologist or school social worker by phone or videoconference.
Parents of students in any grade level can request a consultation to receive guidance on how to support their child’s social, emotional, and academic success. Information about community resources will also be provided.
Students in middle or high school can request a consultation to receive guidance and support for concerns related to anxiety, mood, behavior, peer or family interactions, or school transitions and changes. Strategies and tools can also be provided to address academic challenges such as organization and time management.
We encourage all families to take advantage of this service. Request a consultation or call and leave a message at 703-503-2520.
Library News
Rising 7th and 8th grade students are encouraged to participate in Irving’s Summer READ! Program throughout the summer break. Check out the promotional video here! (voice-over version of the video is also available). From the Irving website, students and parents/guardians can print out a copy of the choice board which lists 24 different reading challenges. When students complete a square of the choice board, they answer a few questions about what they read on a Google Form (https://bit.ly/WIMSSUMREAD2024). For each entry that students enter into the form, their name is entered into a raffle for $25 Barnes & Noble gift cards. Students have the opportunity to enter up to 24 times. Four gift cards will be rewarded randomly by choosing names from among the participants. A student may win only one gift card.
While we have had a lot of books returned over the past week, there are still hundreds of library books that need to be returned. Please look for overdue notices that were emailed to both students and parents on Thursday, June 6. This was sent only to students who have books that need to be returned. If your child has lost a book, please have them come talk to a librarian. We do not charge overdue fines, nor do we expect lost books to be replaced by the student. But, we do want to get books returned, or update our circulation system for items that are lost.
