Major News for Friday, June 7, 2024

Hello, Major Families

We are nearing the end of the school year with only 3 days remaining.  For your planning purposes, remember that we dismiss at 11:20 with grab and go lunch on Monday and Tuesday, and we dismiss at 10:10 on Wednesday.  Our underclassmen are engaged in their final exams; exams in periods 6 & 8 will be administered on Monday, and exams in period 7 will be administered on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, June 12, students will report to Major Time (3rd period) for attendance before participating in various Wellness Day activities until dismissal.

My bias aside, our graduation ceremony on Tuesday, June 4, was by far the most amazing FCPS graduation so far and our best yet. The Class of 2024 made us all very proud.  We are especially thankful to Ms. Brooks, Ms. Clarke, Ms. Williams-Taylor, and Ms. Townsend, who led us in the preparation and execution of the event and to everyone who participated, either by marching with the students or helping out behind the scenes! We know we're going to see great things from our newest Alums!

We recently said farewell to Mrs. Shon Reed, who took a position in a neighboring school system, and we are in the process of hiring a new Assistant Principal.  I am very excited by the number of highly qualified candidates we have to choose from, and I am certain we will find someone who loves our students as much as Ms. Reed.  For the time being, students and families assigned to Ms. Reed will work with their alpha administrator:

Last names A-Der  Ms. Boyd

Last names Des-Lay Mr. Shaffer

Last names Laz-Ram Ms. Blair

Last names Ran-Z Ms. Brooks

For continuity, I will assume the role of Class of 2025 Administrator, and I am very excited to see every senior walk across the stage in June, 2025, as my 4th class at MVHS.  I look forward to working with the Parent Council, as well, in planning Seniorfest!  Our new Assistant Principal will assume the role of Class of 2028 Administrator.

On a personal note, I have truly enjoyed my time as the Acting Principal of MVHS.  This has been a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I am honored and humbled to have had the chance to serve our community as Principal.  That being said, I am excited to return to my subschool and resume my role as Assistant Principal, and I look forward to working with our new Principal, Mr. Cary Dimmick.  Great things are ahead for MVHS!

With love and Major PRIDE,

Karen Boyd, Acting Principal

EPF Student Receives Scholarship

One of our students, Remi Lloyd, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship through the "Credit Worthy Scholarship Contest" offered by Everfi. In order to qualify for this scholarship, Remi completed the Credit Worthy courses in Everfi in addition to completing her classwork, followed by submitting a 300–500-word essay detailing her future goals and how the program has helped her prepare.

Remi's essay was very well-written, and I am incredibly proud of her dedication and effort in achieving this recognition.  Congratulaions!
