Principal's Message

Hello Lake Anne Families,

The end of year celebrations continue! This week we were excited to welcome students to our Neon Party to celebrate attendance. Our students danced the afternoon away in their fun glow-in-the dark gear!

We also want to send a heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS to all of our 6th grade students as them head into middle school. This week we celebrating our 6th graders using the them Lights, Camera, Middle School! We reminded each of our 6th graders about the light they carry in this world and encouraged them to reflect on all the "scenes" from elementary school and to create new memories as 7th graders.

We ended the week with a celebration of learning as all of our students got a chance to present their poems and writing during the Blooming Authors event. We were so excited to seeing many families join us and celebrate their student's work!

Field day is on Monday, June 10. Our students are ready to play fun games and enjoy all the activities our PE teachers, Mrs. Eck and Coach Bee have planned for them. Please send your students to school in comfortable clothes. You might also consider sending a change of clothes for your student, if possible. We are looking forward to a fun day.

Finally, Wednesday, June 12, is the last day of school Students will be dismissed two hours early at 1:35 PM.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Jill Stewart, Principal

Dr. Brittany Rogers, Assistant Principal

🥗 Don’t Forget to Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance!

It’s a busy time of year, and we know there are many priorities on families’ plates. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to remember to check your students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.

Families that earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals. However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2024-25 school year will be available this summer.

If families have a current balance and think they may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2023-24 school year. Get more information about free and reduced-price lunch.

Title I Information for the 2024-2025 School Year

Lake Anne is excited to announce that we will be a Title I school for the 2024-205 school year! On Tuesday, April 16 we held a community meeting to share some information about how this will impact our school. Some of the information is shared below and if you have questions, please feel free to add them to this google form and we will address them throughout the end of the school year and summer.

Important Information:

  • Title I is a Federally Funded Grant
  • Schools are identified for Title I funds based on the percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price meals.
  • The purpose of Title I is to provide all students significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement and opportunity gaps.
  • Being a Title I school means receiving federal funding to supplement the school’s existing programs.
  • Title I Funding Supports:
      • Implementing innovative educational programs that are geared toward students’ needs to ensure all students reach high expectations.
      • Expanding intervention and enrichment programs.
      • Additional staffing to support interventions, enrichment, and specific areas of opportunity for the school.

EOY Medication Pick-Up

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site  on  the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

🩹 Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders

Immunizations are required for all students entering 7th and 12th grades this fall. Visit the FCPS immunization webpage to learn about the required vaccines.  Caregivers should ask their private healthcare provider or the health department to review their student's immunization record to ensure that their student has received these required immunizations.

It is important to schedule immunizations early in the summer, as seventh grade students must submit documentation of the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines before they begin school in August. Twelfth grade students must submit documentation of the Meningococcal vaccine. Get more information on all student immunization requirements.
