REMINDER

The last day of school is this Wednesday, June 12. It is a 2hr. early release day. Students will be dismissed at 2:00 pm.

Have a safe, fun and wonderful summer! We look forward to seeing everyone return to school August 19th!!

1. Health Room Notice

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than 2:00 pm, student dismissal time, on the last day of school, June 12. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school or online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services. A medication authorization form is required for any medication, prescription or over-the-counter, to be kept at school.

4th Grade Celebrates the End of Year with some sun and water!


2. Report Cards

Report cards will go home with students on Wednesday, June 12, the last day of school. If your child will not be in school that day and you would like the report card mailed to you, please send in a self-addressed stamped envelope to your child's teacher. Thank you.

 


3. Yearbook Distribution

Pre-ordered yearbooks will be distributed on Monday, June 10th to all grade levels, beginning with 6th grade. There will be a limited supply of soft cover yearbooks for sale in the office on Monday, June 10th for $30 each. First come, first served. Exact change only. Checks can be made out to VRES PTA.

 


Band Concert

Mr.Bandy led the VRES band and a guest player on sax this year, LET’S GO BAND!

 


4. Band and Strings Registrations

Does your child want to learn to play an instrument? Band and Strings registrations are happening now for the 2024-2025 school year! Sign up by Friday, June 7th!!

5. School Supply Pre-Orders

Make the summer stress free by pre-ordering school supplies for next year! Supplies will be delivered directly to the school and will be in your student's classroom in time for their classroom visit the week before school begins. 

Order securely online now through June 25th!

Preschool had a BLAST with water day!  They enjoyed popsicles and splashing in the cool water on a hot day! 

 


6. Summer Reading Book Bingo

Let’s keep reading all summer!  Complete our fun VRES Summer Reading Bingo Board and return it to Mrs. Siwert in the library the first week of school.  Everyone who turns in a Bingo Board will be able to choose an awesome prize!  Bingo Boards are being sent home in this week’s Wednesday folders.  Go here to print another copy in English or Spanish!  Happy Reading!

7. Virginia Run Elementary School Bookmobile

Teachers and parents know how important it is for students to keep reading over the summer months. Need books to read? Be on the look out for the  VRES Bookmobile!

On Wednesdays this summer, VRES staff will be in the Virginia Run  neighborhoods with free books for students! (See schedule below.)  All students and families are welcome to visit us in every neighborhood! Books are free and yours to keep!

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees, specifically at Virginia Run!

9. Kindergarten and New Student Registration

Calling All New Vikings!

Virginia law requires that all children who will be 5 years old on or before September 30, 2024, must be enrolled in kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year. If you do not wish your child to attend school until the following year, you must notify the school in writing. 

If you have a child who will attend Virginia Run Elementary next year, please contact Betty Bancroft to register. This will allow accurate numbers for staffing and classes next year!

11. Kindergarten & Grades 1-6 New Student Tours & Playdates

Welcome NEW Virginia Run Vikings! You are invited to bring your families and come to Virginia Run July 31st, for a tour of the school and to informally meet new friends. The kindergarten session will be from 9:00 am to 10:00 am and the grades 1 - 6 session will be from 10:00 am - 11:00 am. This event will include a bus ride around the neighborhood and a school tour by our very own staff members and administrators, followed by popsicles on the playground. Come out to meet new friends before the first day of school!

 


Preschool Graduation

VRES Preschoolers, their parents, and staff attend a Promotion Ceremony and watch a slideshow of their activities, Principal Gerstner joined the celebration and handed  certificates to the graduates. 

 


12. Centreville High School Boys Basketball Camp 2024

The Centreville High School Boosters is sponsoring the Boys Basketball Camp 2024 at Centreville High School from July 29th - August 2nd. The camp runs from 8:30 am - 2:30 pm and is open to boys, 7 - 15 years old. The cost is $225 per camper that includes a camp t-shirt. There will be daily instruction by coaching staff and varsity players, daily competitions to earn trophies, 3 vs. 3 tournament, money shot game to win cash, and three games everyday!

14. Summer Office Hours

Until August 7th, our Virginia Run office will be open during the summer from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday - Friday. Please call the school office at 703-988-8900 if you need to unenroll and/or register a student for the 2024-25 school year.
