Dear Poplar Tree Families,

As another school year draws to a close, we want to reflect on all the remarkable achievements, heartwarming memories, and invaluable growth of our school community.

This year our students have grown as collaborators and communicators, learned more about what it means to be an ethical and global citizen, have had opportunities to think critically and creatively, all while being goal directed and resilient and persevering through it all!

To our 6th graders, congratulations! You've accomplished so much and are now poised to embark on exciting new adventures. Remember, the lessons learned here will stay with you – the knowledge you gained, the friendships you made, and the character you developed. We look forward to celebrating our 6th graders at their Promotion Ceremony on Tuesday, June 12!

A profound thank you to our dedicated staff. Your tireless efforts, support, and committment to education have empowered our students to thrive. To our families, your partnership has been instrumental in creating a positive learning environment.

Here's to a rejuvenating summer break! We look forward to reuniting in the new year in August!

Have a wonderful summer!

Sue Andujar, Principal

Amy Alley, Assistant Principal

Preschool Community Peers

🧱 Community Peers🖍️

The preschool classes at Poplar Tree are looking for community peers for the 2024-25 school year.

The goal of this program is to encourage active learning and promote social interactions through shared experiences between the community peers and the preschoolers with developmental delays.  We are looking for children between the ages of 3-5 who can model age-appropriate language, motor, and social skills.  The preschool program uses a child-centered approach to learning.  We follow a daily routine that includes circle/morning meeting, centers, small groups, music, library, art, and outside play.

The community peers will attend either a morning or afternoon session, which are 3 ½ hours long.  Students can attend 3-4 days per week and there are eight children with developmental delays in each class.  Classes are staffed by an early childhood special education teacher and a full-time instructional assistant.  Community peer models must be at least 3 years old and toilet trained.  They must reside within Fairfax County and transportation to and from school must be provided by the child’s family.

If you are interested in having your child considered for this program please email Susan Wrobel (tswrobel@fcps.edu) or Barbi Shires (bhshires@fcps.edu).
