Message from Ms. Kearns

Hello Bruin Families,

As the school year draws to a close, I wanted to express my deepest gratitude for your partnership. Your support throughout the year has been instrumental in our students' success. It's been a pleasure getting to know many of you, and I've been consistently impressed by your children's dedication and growth.

Once details are confirmed for the start of the 24-25 school year, we will start sending information through the eNotify system. Please ensure your email address in SIS is kept up-to-date so that you will receive the most current information.

I hope you all have a relaxing and enjoyable summer break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting year in August!

Lindsey Kearns

June 12:  7th-11th grade collection in the Cafeteria

Students should check with their teachers to find specific location.

School Library Book Roundup

We encourage students to return the Lake Braddock library books they still have checked out to the school library.  All library books were due May 29.  Students who have books checked out have been receiving reminder notices to their fcpsschools.net email address, and will receive an email notice again June 7.

A labeled return cart stands outside the library, as well as a return bin immediately inside the library’s door. If a book cannot be found, please come report to a librarian.  There are no fines or fees.

If library books are found over the summer, there will be a cart inside the Main Office over the summer where they can be returned between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm. Thank you for your help in returning books to put back on our library shelves.

The Lake Braddock Symphony Orchestra has been invited to perform at the 2024 Virginia Music Educator’s Association conference in November!  They were selected through a blind audition process with other orchestras from across the state and only three orchestras at the secondary level were chosen.  They will perform a forty-five-minute concert that will feature music of a variety of difficulty levels and backgrounds.  Congratulations!

PTSA Workshop

Lake Braddock PTSA is happy to sponsor an interactive workshop for families about essential essential legal issues & documents you and your graduating senior may need to consider! This free workshop is being presented by Rebecca Geller, President/CEO of The Geller Law Group (and mom of a high schooler!).

What are the legal implications of your child turning 18 ? Learn about essential legal documents: Powers of Attorney, Healthcare Directives, Wills, and more.

  • Understand the significance of these documents as your child transitions into adulthood.
  • Participate in an engaging Q&A session with Rebecca Geller.
  • Gain insights and practical tips to safeguard your family's future.

Register to join us today and please share with your Lake Braddock network!

Virtual Mental Wellness Consultations

This summer, the FCPS Office of Intervention and Prevention Services will offer virtual Mental Wellness Consultations from Monday, June 24, through Friday, August 2. Any FCPS parent or secondary student can schedule a 45-minute consultation with a school psychologist or social worker by phone or videoconference.

Parents of students in any grade level can request a consultation to receive guidance on how to support their child’s social, emotional, and academic success. Information about community resources will also be provided.

Middle or high school students can request a consultation to receive guidance and support for concerns related to anxiety, mood, behavior, peer or family interactions, or school transitions and changes. Strategies and tools can also be provided to address academic challenges such as organization and time management.

We encourage all families to take advantage of this service. Request a consultation or call and leave a message at 703-503-2520.

No-Cost Virtual Therapy for High School Students

Virtual therapy sessions are available to FCPS high school students at no cost to provide a safe space to address concerns such as:

  • Mood/behavior changes, motivation, grief/loss.
  • Anxiety, worry, fears.
  • Social skills, bullying, peer and family relationships.
  • Academic stress.

In order for students to participate, caregivers must give permission for FCPS to share basic demographic information with Hazel Health in ParentVUE, and they must provide consent for their student to access therapy services.

Students can then be referred by a guardian or designated school staff member. You may refer your child by calling 571-749-2940 or by contacting an FCPS school counselor, social worker, psychologist, or director of Student Services.

Visit the FCPS Teletherapy webpage for more information.
