Principal's Message

june 6

Dear Shrevewood Families,

We would like to give a special shout-out to our exceptional ESOL team (Ms. Hoover, Ms. Avgousti, Ms. Machler, and Ms. Zvijac) for organizing a spectacular International Night. In addition, thank you to all of the staff and students for all of their hard work and contributions towards the night. The event was a vibrant celebration of our diverse cultures, and it brought our school community even closer. Thank you to all the families who attended and contributed to making the night so memorable. Your participation and contributions showcased the strength of our unity and the richness of our community's cultural heritage.

As this is the last Wise Words newsletter this school year, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for your support, dedication, and enthusiasm. Your involvement and commitment have truly made this year a success, and it has been a joy to see our community grow and thrive together.

Wishing you all a wonderful summer filled with joy, relaxation, and memorable moments with your loved ones. Thank you once again for a fantastic year!

Sincerely,

Joshua DeSmyter, Principal

Katie Vandawalker, Assistant Principal

Fond Farewells

It is the time of year that we are focused on endings and beginnings.  We are ending the school year and looking forward to the beginning of summer.  Some endings are much harder for us, especially when they involve saying goodbye to some of our wonderful Shrevewood staff members.  It is with mixed feelings of sadness and affection that we bid a fond farewell to the following Shrevewood staff members:

  • Josh DeSmyter, Principal
  • Natalie Kogan, Kindergarten Teacher
  • Leo Ribeiro, 2nd Grade Teacher
  • Brittney Jang, 3rd Grade Teacher
  • Caitlin Tucker, 4th Grade Teacher
  • Lauren Cohen, 4th Grade Teacher
  • Thomas Hearin, 6th Grade Teacher
  • Kimberly Adams, Librarian
  • Maryam Rezaei, Instructional Assistant
  • Megan Smeltzer, Speech and Language Pathologist

As the summer approaches, we could still have staffing changes. We will continue to update the community with any changes. We are already almost fully staffed for next school year. We will introduce the new staff members to you later this summer.

Goodbyes are not forever.

Goodbyes are not the end.

They simply mean I’ll miss you

Until we meet again!

Student Test Results Coming Soon

You will begin receiving your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, view this list of tests by grade level on FCPS’ website.

How the results are delivered depends on the test. Scores will be posted in SIS ParentVUE, or sent by mail or from the school or testing organization. Learn what to expect regarding assessment reporting practices and timelines

Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about student assessments, including what each assessment is testing for and how to interpret the test results. Caregivers should contact their children’s teacher with any testing questions.

New SOL Growth Reports for Grade 3-8 Tests Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) test results, along with other student data, help demonstrate in which subjects or topics students may need additional academic support.

In order to help interpret SOL results for parents, the Virginia Department of Education has released new Standards of Learning Growth Parent Reports for families of students who took grade 3-8 SOL math and reading tests this spring.

The Growth Parent Report ties together scores from fall and winter Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) with the student’s current spring SOL results to show their trend in academic progress this year.

Learn how to understand your student’s grade 3-8 SOL results and find resources to support their ongoing learning.
