June 11 Family Newsletter

As we approach the last day of school, it is truly hard to believe how quickly this year has flown by. Our theme this year has been about making the most out of our time together with students and staff, and we are proud of the community we have built and the connections we have strengthened.

This last week has been a whirlwind of end-of-the-year excitement, filled with unforgettable events and some big feelings. We celebrated Field Day with laughter and friendly competition, explored future possibilities on Career Day, and marked a significant milestone with our Sixth Grade Promotion. To top it all off, we had the thrilling experience of a helicopter landing at Union Mill on Monday, which left our students in awe.

While the upcoming summer break brings the promise of fun and relaxation, it can also be a challenging transition for children as they say goodbye to their teachers and friends for several weeks. We recognize these mixed emotions and are here to support our students as they navigate this change.
Thank you for being a part of our vibrant community and for making this year so special. We wish you all a wonderful and safe summer, filled with joy and new adventures.

As a reminder, Wednesday, June 12th is the last day of school and students will be dismissed at 1:30 pm

Wednesday, June 19, is a holiday for FCPS employees. Schools and offices will be closed. Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 that word of the Emancipation Proclamation and the end of the Civil War finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, effectively marking the end of slavery in the United States. Learn more about Juneteenth.

Helicopter Landing

It was exciting to have Fairfax County Police Department helicopter land at Union Mill on Monday to kickoff career day. A special thank you to Mr. Quinn, a Union Mill parent for making this happen! All students were able to watch the helicopter land. Kindergartners and sixth graders had the opportunity to get a closer look and meet some of our community helpers.

Health Room Medication Pick Up Wed, June 12th

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up by a parent or guardian no later than student dismissal time on the last day of school.  Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed per policy.  Medication cannot be sent home with your student.  If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by FCPS, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick-up the medication before student dismissal time on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program.  If you have any questions, please contact the Health Room at 703-322-8510.

Summer Math Support

As we’re moving into the summer, if you are looking for ways to support your student’s mathematical learning, FCPS has created a page with variety of optional resources. You can view them at the link here. ST Math will continue to be available over the summer and ST Math family resources are also linked on the FCPS page.
