Student stretching slime and students reading in the library

From making slime to Poetry Palooza, students are engaging in many fun activities at the end of the year.

Good afternoon, Franklin Community,

It has been a fun week celebrating our former Falcons that are currently seniors at Chantilly HS and Oakton HS!  Yesterday we hosted our former students and did our first-ever senior walk through the halls.  It was a great reminder to our current students about what lies ahead for them, and a wonderful opportunity for our staff to celebrate the successes of their former students.  Today I had the honor of attending the graduation ceremony for Chantilly High School.  As one of the student speakers shared today, we are here to celebrate huge life events, such as graduation, but we also need to celebrate the small events that got students to this point.  As we approach our last few days of this school year, I encourage you to spend time with your child(ren) and celebrate their achievements this year - the growth they have achieved in all areas of their lives and the new skills they have mastered.  The learning that happens in these short 2 years of middle school will carry our students through as they make their way toward the larger celebration of high school graduation and beyond.  I am so proud of our students and what they have accomplished this year!

As a reminder, next week is a short week and on our last day of school on Wednesday, we will have a 2 hour early release.  I wish you all a wonderful weekend and, as always, please reach out to me at MLCase@fcps.edu with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Michelle Case

Interim Principal

June 12 - Last Day of School, 2-Hour Early Dismissal

🎉End of the Year Celebration

Our End of the Year Celebration is Monday, June 10! The theme is The Future is Bright so encourage your kids to wear bright clothing that day.  The PTA has planned an inflatable obstacle course, giant Connect 4, giant Jenga, friendship bracelets, and popsicles.  The 8th graders will also get Kona Ice.  There will be a few additional surprises just for the 8th graders to help send them off to high school with great memories.

All activities will be outdoors, so send your student with sunscreen, a hat, and a water bottle. There will be grab and go lunches available for purchase, or students can bring a lunch.

  • 7th Grade Celebration:  8:30 AM - 10:30 AM
  • 8th Grade Celebration:  11:00 AM - 1:30 PM

The PTA is covering the costs with membership dues, spirit wear sales, Dining Days, etc.  Additional donations would help them make sure the day is extra special.  If you'd like to contribute, you can donate via PayPal here or by dropping a check off at the school.

A huge congratulations to all of the students that were selected for publication in this year's edition, and a hearty thank you to the Creative Club for reviving the school's literary magazine. You won't want to miss this exciting new publication.

Medication Pickup

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than 12:15 PM on Wednesday, June 12. Medications left in the health room after that time will be discarded.  It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian.  Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

If your child will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, your existing long-term medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program.  Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

If you have any questions, please contact your school health aide, Donna Long, at 703-904-5110.

🥗Remember to Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance

It’s a busy time of year, and we know there are many priorities on families’ plates. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to remember to check your students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.

Families that earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals. However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2024-25 school year will be available this summer.

If families have a current balance and think they may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2023-24 school year. Get more information about free and reduced-price lunch.

After-School Program - Parent Survey

Below is a link for a quick survey about the Middle School After-School Program. The survey should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete.  The survey is an important component of the after-school program evaluation and is critical for future funding.  The more responses we receive, the more valuable and reliable the data.  The responses not only allow us to assess the impact of the after-school program but they help drive program improvement and program quality.

Thank you for completing the survey and for your support of the after-school program.  This survey is FCPS approved. Approval Number is 24234.

All survey responses are due by June 7, 2024.
