Message from Principal Prindle

Each year as we head into summer we have to say farewell to staff who are retiring or leaving for new opportunities.

This June we will say goodbye to our three retirees Nina Rumohr, Kathleen Linehan and Carmen Alvarez-Keefer. We are also sending well wishes to Fara Klein, who will be pursing other opportunities and Jaime Singhal, who is shifting to preschool special education.

This week has been filled with fun activities, performances and celebrations. We're grateful to our staff for supporting our students in skills beyond typical academics.

This summer will be busy as the construction team works to wrap up the renovation. The building will be a bustle of activity as the team works hard throughout the summer. We are still expecting to be able to move all students into the main building for the start of school.

Honoring Our Retirees

Our fourth, fifth and sixth graders stunned at the spring concert. It is always amazing to see how much they grow from winter to spring. We're grateful to Mrs. Cradler, Mrs. Lubinski and Ms. Riddle for their work with our students this year.

WFES Library Books - Please Return

books

Thank you for returning so many library books last week. We still need more to come back, so lists of overdue books are being emailed to families daily, and will also include the replacement cost of each one. If you are having difficulty locating a missing book and would like to replace it, please utilize one of the following options:

  1. Send in cash or a check made out to the Wakefield Forest Library. It is best if these payments are sent in with an envelope clearly indicating that the money is for a lost library book.
  2. Made a payment online via My School Bucks (the same system used to load money onto a cafeteria account) and choose “lost library book” as the reason for payment
  3. Purchase a new copy of the missing book from Amazon or the retailer of your choice and either send it directly to the school to the attention of the library (please include a note on your order indicating who it is from if you choose this option) or have your child deliver it directly to Mrs. Rapuano or Mrs. Grimsley in the library

We ask that all library obligations be satisfied ASAP, by Monday, June 10th. Thank you so much for your efforts to locate and return your books, we sincerely appreciate every single one!

Where is Ms. Prindle?

The end of the year is a time for extra fun! A cardboard Ms. Prindle has been making the rounds. Our students are enjoying searching for "Ms. Prindle" as she moves around the building for the last few weeks of school.

We are grateful for our outgoing and in coming patrol officers, as well as our Safety Patrol Sponsors, Courtney Massimo and Michelle Maxwell-Gold. Safety Patrol gives many of our 5th and 6th graders opportunities to shine as leaders.

Crystal Needs a Summer Home

ax

Dear Parents/Students,

As you know the STEAM room has an  Axolotl named Crystal ( we use to have a pair but unfortunately Rocky past away this spring). Crystal has just finished its second year of elementary school with us and would like to celebrate by going on a summer vacation somewhere nice in the Wakefield community. If your family would like to watch them for part of the summer or all of the summer please fill out form below.

We are looking for a family or two  to watch Crystal  in your very own AirBnB household.   The family must be willing to:

  1. Hand feed dried shrimp (with a tweezer) to Crystal  daily.  They are trained now so if you tap on glass and move the shrimp likes its moving they will track their prey and eat it.  They typically eat 3-5 shrimp at a time.  Please gently smoosh the shrimp so that it is softer when they eat it.
  2. Monitor tank temperature (must be around 60 degrees and have a small fan that runs to keep it cool).
  3. Monitor to make sure fans and bubblers are operating correctly,
  4. Resist temptation to touch the Axolotl with bare hands (oil on our skin is very bad for Axolotls).

Mr. Gray will give you the tank, water and all materials related to watching the Axolotls successfully.

If you are interested in hosting our Axolotls at your AirBNB please fill out information in the link below by next Friday 06/07/24,  I will contact you if your family is selected.  Don't fret as you will have another opportunity during future breaks during the school year.
