Principal Dowling's Message

Greetings families,

We are so excited to wrap up the end of the school year. This week our amazing specialist team planned an outdoor “Fun Fitness Day” and the kids had so much fun. They worked on teamwork, communication, collaboration, and good sportsmanship. The weather held out long enough for all of our students to really enjoy themselves.

Our last day of school will be Wednesday, June 12th and we dismiss two hours early.

Next week’s newsletter will be our final one for the school year and will include information about when you can expect information about next year.

Looking forward to celebrating this amazing school year next week!

Wishing you well,

Holly, Tricia, and Christie

5th Grade Promotion Ceremony

If your child is in 5th Grade, a letter with more details for the 5th Grade Promotion being held on June 10th, 2024, came home in Thursday folders on May 23. Due to space in our gym and in order to allow for each child to have family members present for this special event, each child will receive two tickets for this event. These tickets were sent home today with your child and will  be used to sign you in to receive your visitor sticker and enter the promotion ceremony. If you do not have your ticket the day of the ceremony, you will have to wait to enter and sign-in using your licenses and our sign-in system. To help accommodate our space, no strollers will be allowed. If you need an accommodation or special seating, please contact Christie Fuller or Tricia Wayland at 703-503-2700. We look forward to celebrating our 5th graders with you all soon!

Virtual Mental Wellness Consultations

This summer, the FCPS Office of Intervention and Prevention Services will offer virtual Mental Wellness Consultations from Monday, June 24, through Friday, August 2. Any FCPS parent or secondary student will have an opportunity to schedule a 45-minute consultation with a school psychologist or school social worker by phone or videoconference.

Parents of students in any grade level can request a consultation to receive guidance on how to support their child’s social, emotional, and academic success. Information about community resources will also be provided.

Students in middle or high school can request a consultation to receive guidance and support for concerns related to anxiety, mood, behavior, peer or family interactions, or school transitions and changes. Strategies and tools can also be provided to address academic challenges such as organization and time management.

We encourage all families to take advantage of this service. Request a consultation or call and leave a message at 703-503-2520.

End of Year Medication Pick-Up

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on  the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).
