Academy Awards Event! A BIG Celebration!

The Falls Church Academy, Academy Awards event occurred on May 15 at 6pm and began as always in grand fashion.  The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Honor Guard lead by Patrick Devera and Emerald Society piper Matt Lopez, started the evenings event off with a patriotic flourish.  To follow, students from all 12 disciplines of Academy classes were honored for their commitment to their education, their health and human services career paths and service to others.  Six students were honored with a Leadership In Action award for their heroism and use of the medical knowledge they learned in class to save the lives of individuals needing medical care that they encountered in their every day lives this academic year.

Learning "real life" medical care through Mass Casualty event

The Falls Church Academy Annual Mass Casualty event, a cross-curricular academy-wide simulation, occurred in all three class sessions on Friday, May 31.

This simulation incorporated all FC academy disciplines and imitated  communication across these pre-hospital and in-hospital medical components. In addition, Academy world languages such as ASL and Vietnamese played a role in this mass casualty incident exercise as victims in need of interpretation assistance to communicate with criminal justice and medical workers.

We are grateful to the Fairfax County CERT Moulage Team lead by Susy Ledgerwood, who come each year and make our students "injuries" look so realistic!
