Greetings, Irving Families!
This is a Special Monday Morning Edition of our Weekly Newsletter! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and were able to enjoy the absolutely lovely weather we had. We are looking forward to so many exciting events coming up this week and next.
First, on Tuesday, June 4, from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm the PTA and WIMS Administrators will be washing our staff members' cars! We need some additional volunteers, so if you have some time on Tuesday, please stop by. We would love to wash as many cars as possible throughout the day as another way to show our staff some appreciation!
Our next event is the count down to the 8th grade Celebration! Leading up to the celebration, we have a theme week of some favorites of the SCA and some themes they didn’t get to use this year. We invite all students and staff to participate this week. The clothing themes were shared during Rock Block and a PA announcement was made as well last week.
- Monday, June 3, is Black Out - students & staff wear all black clothing.
- Tuesday, June 4, is Neon Day - students & staff wear bright neon.
- Wednesday, June 5, is summer Vibes Day - wear your favorite (school appropriate) summer outfit.
- Thursday, June 6, is Throwback Thursday! Students/Staff throwback to the 90’s or early 2000’s!
- Friday, June 7, is Irving Day - wear your Irving MS Gear or Blue and White to celebrate the last Spirit Day of the year!
A reminder the celebration is for Irving MS 8th grade students only and begins at 6:00 pm on Friday, June 7. It looks to be a beautiful evening, all events will be held outside - please remind your child this is not a formal event! We are still in need of chaperones (thank you to the 13 parents/guardians who have signed up). With over 600, 8th graders invited, we could definitely use additional support. Parents and guardians may sign up using this Chaperone Sign-up form. I also want to thank you for your generous donations through the Snack Donation Sign-up. We are almost at our goal with snacks for the evening. If you would like to donate, please use the form above or if prefer to have snack items delivered from a site like Amazon- items may be sent to: Tiffany Cheatham, Irving MS 8th grade dance, 8100 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, VA 22152.
Another exciting event is yearbook distribution. Due to a delay in the delivery of our yearbooks, we will be distributing yearbooks to students who pre-purchased them on Wednesday, June 5 during 3rd period Rock Block. There are a few extras that will be available for purchase until they are gone.
Our final event of the year is on Tuesday, June 11 - it is our annual Team Day! We will have a variety of activities for students to participate in - please be sure to send your child into school with a hat, sunscreen, and a LABELED water bottle - we will all be outside for part of the day!
Take Care!

Irving Stays After - After School Program
The After School program at Irving Middle School provides students access to high-quality activities in a safe environment for all students. The Program strives to improve academic performance, foster social, emotional, and physical well-being, all while reducing the potential for risk-taking behaviors.
Thank you to the students and teacher-sponsors that participated in the after school program this school year.
Below is a link for a quick survey about the Middle School After-School Program. The survey should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. The survey is an important component of the after-school program evaluation and is critical for future funding. The more responses we receive, the more valuable and reliable the data. The responses not only allow us to assess the impact of the after-school program but they help drive program improvement and program quality.
Thank you for completing the survey and for your support of the after-school program. This survey is FCPS approved. Approval Number is 24234.
All survey responses are due by June 7, 2024.

Library News
At the time of publication, students report in this week’s “Irving Says” poll that they’d rather tell a really funny joke than hear a really funny joke! (66% to 33%)
It’s NO JOKE that we still have some students with library books that need to be returned. Please look for an overdue notice that was emailed on Friday, May 31, sent only to students who have books that need to be returned. If your child has lost a book, please have them come talk to a librarian.
Stay tuned for full details of Irving’s Summer READ! Program in next week’s newsletter. Irving students will hear about it starting on Monday!! This program will be for rising 7th and 8th grade students.
