Principal's Message
We are nearing the end of the 2023-24 school year. Thank you to our parent volunteers for continuing to support our cafeteria weekly, field trips, field day and end of year celebrations. We are truly grateful for the parent support.
Last Friday we held our 4th Quarter Pep Rally which also was a time to honor our retirees:
Mrs. Cynthis Kohout, Special Education Teacher Ms. Betsy Butler, 2nd Grade Teacher Mrs. Lan Ong, Building Supervisor Mrs. Anne Himelfarb, Instructional Assistant
The end of the year also brings a time to say goodbye to those moving away and off to new adventures. I know our staff are loved and our students want to be able to say goodbye. These staff members include:
Peggy Leung, Chinese Teacher - Transferring to Dranesville ES to teach Kindergarten
Christina Flegas, 4th Grade Teacher - Moving out of Virginia
Jessica Miller - spending more time with her new little boy and working as a part time PE teacher at Langley HS.
Kathleen Limbaugh, 1st Grade- Spending time at home with her daughter
Stephanie Jennings - Transferring to Deer Park ES

Hailee Park, Special Education teacher - Moving out of Virginia and welcoming her first child.
As we close the year we are fully staffed with the exception of a couple of aides. We have a great group of knowledgeable, talented educators with a wealth of experience joining Team Chesterbrook!
Sincerely,

Inclusive Preschool Community Program
Chesterbrook opened an early childhood class based preschool during the 2023-24 school year. Chesterbrook Elementary will continue our community peers invitation in our preschool program next school year. This will involve teaching preschoolers with developmental delays and without delays in the same classroom. It can provide young children with a more stimulating environment, teach skills for coping with different situations, and provide the opportunity to learn appropriate social skills.
Our program will invite a limited number of community preschoolers (1-2 students), who are age 4-5 years (must be at least 4 years old by September, 30 of school year), to participate in our daily preschool activities. The children from the community will have the opportunity to make new friends and share experiences with current early childhood special education students. Our students will, in turn, benefit from being with community peers who can model appropriate language, motor, and social skills.
The goal of this program is to encourage active learning and promote social interaction and acceptance through shared experiences between the community children and our preschoolers with special needs.
Our Preschool Hours are Monday - Friday as follows:
AM Preschool 9:20 am - 12:40 pm
PM Preschool 12:45 pm – 4:05 pm
If you are interested in expressing interest in Chesterbrook’s Community Peers Program, please complete this google form.
Please reach out to Assistant Principal, Lara Macdonald with any questions ad also to indicate your interest in the program for your preschool aged child.
Get excited for summer reading!
There are lots of opportunities to encourage reading this summer that we wanted to share with you. We will be doing the Chesterbrook Summer Reading Challenge again this year with a bingo board of activities students can complete. We’re looking forwards to adding lots of pictures of our summer readers to our Summer Readers’ Wall of Fame in August. You can print out the Summer Reading Board to participate.
We also wanted to share a flyer with links to other reading programs that are available this summer where students can earn rewards and free books. We hope you have a great summer full of books!
