MEDICATION PICK UP AT WSHS CLINIC

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school (June 12)

Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room.

If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

🎓Graduation Approved Regalia

Security will be screening for approved regalia upon entry to commencement. Any non-approved items will be stored and can be picked up at West Springfield High School the next day.

We are excited for you to join us at our ceremony at EagleBank Arena on June 6th at 9:30 AM.  In addition to traditionally prohibited items (weapons, noise makers, balls, etc.), we wanted to make you aware of their bag policy.

💉Rising 12th Graders: Meningococcal Immunization Requirement

The Code of Virginia requires all students to be immunized against certain communicable diseases prior to entrance into Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). All students entering 12th grade will be required to receive one dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) prior to the beginning of school.

To meet the Meningococcal (MenACWY) 12th grade requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 16 or older.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and the Commissioner of Health have provided the following MenACWY immunization packets for SY 23-24 which can be found on the School Health Services Hub page:

Academic Advising/Course Selections and Changes

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

We have reached the end of our main phase of the academic advising season to select courses for the 2024-2025 school year.  After various information opportunities (curriculum night, electives fair, information on our website, academic advising website, and YouTube clips of courses), students were able to meet with their school counselor individually to finalize course selections.  The current course selections will drive the development of how many sections we can offer per course, staffing decisions, and the creation of schedules.  This process will continue throughout the summer.

The course selections can be reviewed in ParentVue and StudentVue.  After parents/guardians have reviewed their student's course selections together, you may use this form to request a change from your original course selections for the 2024-2025 school year.

Please note that completion of this form does not guarantee that your request will be approved.  Approval is based on seat availability and pre-requisite requirements.  Requests will be reviewed every two weeks from April 4-June 13 and again from August 1-16.  During these two time periods, if your request is approved, confirmation will be sent to the student's FCPS and parent/guardian email address provided on the form.  If approved, students and families will also be able to see the change(s) in StudentVue and ParentVue. If the student wants to revoke a submitted request, please contact your school counselor by June 13th.

2) Purchase ticket here

3) Parent Contract (must be signed and returned via email or to the school) here

VOLUNTEERS: THANK YOU to all those who have already volunteered! YOU are amazing! This event truly takes a village and we recognize that it is a busy time for everyone with family in town and a graduation!

We are *almost* all ready to have an amazing weekend but we are missing something - WE NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS!!!  We need security volunteers - this just means that you will most likely be stationed at a door to make sure no one comes in or out!

Please CLICK HERE to be directed to our signup genius to find a slot to fill.

If you can even help us with one time slot (or two!!) that would be AMAZING!  The St. James REQUIRES us to have volunteers to man the building for safety reasons and we need more.

This is the LAST NIGHT for these kids to be together and just ... be kids.  Before they go off into the world.  Before college or work or the military takes over their lives and forces them into the adult world.  We want this for them.  We want them to remember this night and hope you can also join us.

What are ANGP activities?

We are excited to host our graduates!  They are in for a treat next Saturday night!  We will have the pool open, the ice rink available, and there is a climbing wall.  The courts will be open with volleyball, basketball, and pickleball!  And the field house will have our DJ, a gigantic inflatable obstacle course, and a few other inflatables for the kids to enjoy!  We will have caricature artists and a casino open for them to enjoy.

AND WE WILL HAVE FOOOOD!!!

What to wear:

Comfortable clothing and shoes - bring the basics  - sweatshirt, swimsuit - you really don’t need much.

What to bring:

You’ll need your student ID (preferably) or your driver’s license. Digital photos or paper copies will not be accepted. Swimsuit. Keys and medication (if needed) - that’s it!

What not to bring:

  • Food or drinks - we will have plenty for you! Don’t bring your water bottles either!
  • Any contraband items such as alcohol, tobacco, vape, drugs, cigarettes etc. They will be confiscated, and your parents will be contacted to pick you up from the venue.
  • Bottes of anything - so no perfume, cologne, hairspray, nail polish, deodorant or make-up. We can’t guarantee returning your items to you - think TSA!

Medications: Contact wshsangp@gmail.com to pre-arrange any over the counter or prescription meds you plan to bring for that night.

Check-in Thursday, June 8th at 11:00.  You must be in line no later than 11:45 to gain entry unless prior arrangements have been made.  If your student has not checked in by 11:45pm, expect a call from us to notify you they have not shown up.

Parking: Parking will be available in the general parking lot. It is a first come first get area so encourage them to drive together or even drop them off.

Wristbands: Once you’ve checked in, you’ll get a wristband.

Bag check: All bags including purses and drawstring bags are subject to search upon entry and will be kept, along with car keys, in the baggage room. You won’t be able to (nor will you want to) carry your bags around throughout the night.

Check-out: Friday, June 9th at 05:00 am.

Late arrivals/early dismissal: Your parents/guardians need to contact wshsangp@gmail.com asap if you plan to arrive later or leave early. Early departures MUST be prearranged. We require visual confirmation (ie FaceTime, parent pickup) before dismissal. Safety first.

Pool: The St James will provide towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion at the pool lockers. We’ll have deodorant and feminine hygiene supplies in the bathrooms and a ziplock bag for your wet swimsuit.

PLAN TO STAY ALL NIGHT and HAVE FUN

PSAT/NMSQT (Grades 10-11) and SAT Day (Grade 12)

Digital SAT Replaces Paper in 2024-25

This October, the SAT School Day will be administered in a digital format nationwide. Some testing accommodations are administered differently for digital tests than paper/pencil tests. See information about accommodations for students with disabilities.

SAT School Day and PSAT/NMSQT

SAT School Day and PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) exams will be held at each high school on Wednesday, October 9, at no cost to families. The digital SAT School Day exam is offered to 12th-grade students, and the digital PSAT/NMSQT exam is provided to 10th and 11th-grade students.

Accommodations for Students with Disabilities and Multilingual Learner Supports

If you have a student with disabilities entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade or have a multilingual student entering 12th grade, please review the accommodations request process and/or EL support request process and return forms to the high school by Monday, August 5.

🎓 Colleges and Universities Still Accepting Applications

The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) has released their annual list of colleges and universities that are still accepting applications from prospective freshmen or transfer students for fall 2024. Users may narrow down the list of schools by state and view whether a school still has financial aid, as well as unfilled housing.

NACAC provides an enrollment deposit fee waiver request form that is considered by some institutions for students experiencing significant financial hardship. Students and families may contact their school counselor or college and career specialist with any questions.

Students who still need assistance completing the FAFSA or VASA financial aid forms can schedule a free appointment with our partners at College Access Fairfax. Email Appointments@CollegeAccessFairfax.org. All FAFSA or VASA help that your school or College Access Fairfax provides is free.
