Amazing 5th and 6th Grade Band Concert

Wednesday evening, we were treated to our annual Spring Band Concert at Island Creek! Our 5th and 6th grade band students played a variety of songs for their families, conducted by Ms. Laura Creque. Kudos to Ms. Creque, to our Croc musicians, and to the families who supported their students' musical development throughout the year.

Specials: Art

Busy, busy and more busy! Our art department has been bustling and Mrs. Rozycki and Mrs. Williams are so very proud of our young artists. Our Hayfield Pyramid Art show had representation of over 50 Croc artists who were excited to share their work with their families, friends and teachers, our other neighboring elementary schools and also middle school and high school students/ families from Hayfield Secondary.

Our kindergarteners have been learning about sculpture and created some amazing works using line art. Some have learned a bit about weaving, too, creating some adorable crocodiles. First grade has been learning about “Duck Architecture” and are taking hold of the blue prints with their creativity in desiging their own structures. Second and third grades have been learning about weaving working with paint and discussing colors of the seasons and some are learning to wrap a loom and use yarn to create small rugs. Fourth grade learned about landscapes and tapped in to their Virginia Studies to create one of the five regions using tempera paint or oil pastels. Fifth grade has been learning about the Middle Ages and created illuminated letters using aluminum. Sixth grade has focused on becoming shoe designers in creating “sweet shoes” inspired by their favorite sweet or savory candy or snack. We wish our sixth graders well as they get ready to make the jump to middle school.

Lastly, we wish all a most joyous upcoming summer and hope that all will take some time to create some art at home or enjoy visiting a museum (we have so many wonderful ones so close to us in Washington DC).

📈 New SOL Growth Reports for Grade 3-8 Tests

Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) test results, along with other student data, help demonstrate in which subjects or topics students may need additional academic support.

In order to help interpret SOL results for parents, the Virginia Department of Education has released new Standards of Learning Growth Parent Reports for families of students who took grade 3-8 SOL math and reading tests this spring.

The Growth Parent Report ties together scores from fall and winter Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) with the student’s current spring SOL results to show their trend in academic progress this year.

Learn how to understand your student’s grade 3-8 SOL results and find resources to support their ongoing learning.Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success. Caregivers can view important information in ParentVUE such as attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. A SIS ParentVUE app is available for Apple and Android devices.

If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up-to-date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section. View more information

🥗 Remember to Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance!

It’s a busy time of year, and we know there are many priorities on your plate. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to check your student’s MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.

Free and Reduced-Price Meals

Families who earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals (FRM). However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2024-25 school year will be available this summer.

If you have a current balance and think you may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2023-24 school year.
