Family Newsletter May 31, 2024

Principals' Note

Dear Families,

We are excited to announce that we qualify for an additional assistant principal position for the 2024-2025 school year. Our student numbers are increasing, which also impacts our staffing needs.

Ms. Snyder and I have been discussing the profile of a candidate who possesses qualities and skills that will complement both of us. In addition, we are gathering feedback from our staff and families to ensure your input is included.

We are expanding our special education programming, adding preschool special education and preschool autism services. Our student body has grown by nearly one hundred students in just one year. As these numbers increase, we are working with facilities to accommodate our growing community.

Please use the Community Feedback Form to share your feedback on the qualities you believe our new assistant principal should have. Your input is valuable as we welcome this new member to our administrative team and school community.

Thank you to our new 2024-2025 PTA President, Annie Rousy who will be joining the panel to interview candidates. We look forward to receiving your feedback as we screen resumes and candidates that might be potentially a good fit for our community.

Sincerely,

Mr. Eric T. Johnson, Principal

Ms. Amanda Snyder, Assistant Principal

📚Library News

library

We are finishing the year with lots of activities in the library! Our PreK-2nd grade students celebrated all the great reading they did this year with a party inspired by one of Mrs. Migs' favorite Virginia Reads Award Nominees, Luli and the Language of Tea by Andrea Wang. We had tea parties with iced tea, cookies, music and stories.

We also had the BOGO Book Fair in the library this week. Students have been shopping for lots of new books to read this summer—and getting twice as many with the BOGO deal! We surpassed our goal and have sold approximately 1,100 books for your families to enjoy reading this summer.

The library staff has also been busy checking in LOTS of books this week. All student books are now due back to the library to be cleaned and shelved for next year. There are still over 600 library books out and around the school community. If you receive an overdue notice, please send those books back right away. If a book is lost, we ask that you pay a $5 fee to help replace it. Thank you for your support of the Cameron Library!

💊End of Year Medication Pick-Up

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

Any medications which are not picked up on the last day of school will be discarded appropriately.

School Board Votes to Adopt Fiscal Year 2025 Approved Budget

The Fairfax County School Board voted to adopt Fairfax County Public Schools’ (FCPS) Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Approved Budget at their last board meeting. The FY 2025 Approved Budget totals $3.7 billion — a net increase of $233.2 million or 6.6% over the previous year.

The FY 2025 Approved Budget focuses on providing educational excellence for all students and ensuring that employees’ hard work and dedication are acknowledged through competitive compensation. Both of these efforts fully align with the FCPS 2023-30 Strategic Plan.

Nearly 86% of the Approved Budget is targeted at instruction. Key budget highlights include funding for a 4% compensation increase for all employees; maintaining existing class size formulas and providing necessary support to all students; and expanding athletics offerings, additional athletic trainers, and enhanced stipends for fine and performing arts.
