Hello, Scottie families!

Hello, Scottie families!

What a week!  We had such a great time on Wednesday morning during the Robinson senior parade.  It was loud and it was a blast, as we paraded through the halls of Bonnie Brae with our students cheering on over 450 Robinson graduates.  Congratulations to all the former Scotties who will be graduating from Robinson or Lake Braddock next week!

We had a great day celebrating our final SCA Spirit Day of the year today, Beach Day!   Next week is our final full week of the school year, and it is packed with fun activities and exciting learning opportunities, including our band, strings, and chorus concerts (see schedule below), and Field Day, which takes place on Friday, June 7.  See the section below on Field Day for more information, and please consider volunteering here to support this fun event!

Have a wonderful weekend with your family and friends!

Attendance

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow.

As we approach the final 8 days of the school year, it’s important for students to stay engaged, attend school, and finish strong! Visit our website for attendance resources. We continue to share weekly absenteeism updates here through the end of the year.  As of May 31, 2024, Bonnie Brae's absenteeism rate is at 13.5%.  This is an increase from last week.  Be sure to send your child to school when healthy, and help us continue to decrease our overall percentage of students who are considered chronically absent (as a reminder, chronic absenteeism is missing 10% or more of days in a school year, regardless of excused or unexcused).

Sixth Grade Promotion Ceremony

Due to space constraints, we will be hosting our 6th grade promotion ceremony in two different locations:  9 AM (Koehler & Vericker's classes) in the cafeteria and 9:15 AM (Wilks, Turner, & Sorenson's classes) in the gym. We are excited to celebrate our 6th graders promotion to middle school!  This is a special day for our 6th grade students and families, and we look forward to recognizing them on Tuesday, June 11!

Budget

School Board Votes to Adopt Fiscal Year 2025 Approved Budget

The Fairfax County School Board voted to adopt Fairfax County Public Schools’ (FCPS) Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Approved Budget at their last board meeting. The FY 2025 Approved Budget totals $3.7 billion — a net increase of $233.2 million or 6.6% over the previous year.

The FY 2025 Approved Budget focuses on providing educational excellence for all students and ensuring that employees’ hard work and dedication are acknowledged through competitive compensation. Both of these efforts fully align with the FCPS 2023-30 Strategic Plan.

Nearly 86% of the Approved Budget is targeted at instruction. Key budget highlights include funding for a 4% compensation increase for all employees; maintaining existing class size formulas and providing necessary support to all students; and expanding athletics offerings, additional athletic trainers, and enhanced stipends for fine and performing arts.
