Principal Dowling's Message

Greetings Bailey’s Families,

It's been another great week over here at BUpper!

We welcomed our Rising 3rd-grade families and shared with them the amazing things that happen every day at Bailey’s Upper. They met our incredible teachers and staff and we gave them a tour of our building. They were impressed with the work hanging on the walls, there were many comments about how it feels like a school and not a refurbished office building, and many shared excitement about the different programs offered at our school.

Next week we will have the students come for a visit and we are so excited to show them around and meet our next group of BUpper Tigers!

Please be sure to read all of the information in the newsletter as there is a lot of important things to note as we wrap up this school year.

With Gratitude,

Holly, Christie, and Tricia

5th Grade Promotion Ceremony

If your child is in 5th Grade, a letter with more details for the 5th Grade Promotion being held on June 10th, 2024, came home in Thursday folders on May 23. Due to space in our gym and in order to allow for each child to have family members present for this special event, each child will receive two tickets for this event. These tickets will be sent home with your child on Friday, June 7th and will  be used to sign you in to receive your visitor sticker and enter the promotion ceremony. If you do not have your ticket the day of the ceremony, you will have to wait to enter and sign-in using your licenses and our sign-in system. To help accommodate our space, no strollers will be allowed. If you need an accommodation or special seating, please contact Christie Fuller or Tricia Wayland at 703-503-2700. We look forward to celebrating our 5th graders with you all soon!

End of Year Medication Pick-Up

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on  the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

School Board Votes to Adopt Fiscal Year 2025 Approved Budget

The Fairfax County School Board voted to adopt Fairfax County Public Schools’ (FCPS) Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Approved Budget at their last board meeting. The FY 2025 Approved Budget totals $3.7 billion — a net increase of $233.2 million or 6.6% over the previous year.

The FY 2025 Approved Budget focuses on providing educational excellence for all students and ensuring that employees’ hard work and dedication are acknowledged through competitive compensation. Both of these efforts fully align with the FCPS 2023-30 Strategic Plan.

Nearly 86% of the Approved Budget is targeted at instruction. Key budget highlights include funding for a 4% compensation increase for all employees; maintaining existing class size formulas and providing necessary support to all students; and expanding athletics offerings, additional athletic trainers, and enhanced stipends for fine and performing arts.

Current and upcoming Assessments at Bailey’s Upper

End-of-Year Academic Screener Score Reporting for Families

Family score reports for most spring assessments will be centrally distributed to families through SIS ParentVUE, with central mailing ongoing for VKRP assessments. Schools continue to have responsibility to distribute SIS-posted reports to families without ParentVUE accounts. A FCPS This Week notice on 5/22 alerted families of the expected delivery timeline.

  • iReady Grade 1-3 - expected in PVUE the week of 6/3 (non-PVUE delivery by the end of this year)
  • iReady Grade 4-6 - expected in PVUE the week of 6/24 (non-PVUE delivery before the start of next school year)

If you have any questions regarding any assessment, please contact Nicole Cassidy and Denise Cash-Pinckney our School Testing Coordinators at 703-503-2700
