Atom Nation

Spring sports came to a close this week with the last of our programs ending their respective seasons in the region tournament. We have a couple track athletes who will compete next week in the state meet.

As we finish the year, don't forget to come celebrate our athletes at the End of Year All Athletes Celebration Tuesday evening in the auditorium! We will celebrate our teams, athletes, coaches, and reflect on the year that was!

GO ATOMS!!!

Atoms Weekly Recap

Here is a quick recap of first week of spring sports

Baseball's season came to a close on Tuesday evening at West Potomac. The Wolverines pitching was hot all night, holding the Atoms to no hits through five innings. However, the Atoms were hanging tough as the score read 5-0 through five and the Atoms had their chances multiple times but couldn't come up with a timely hit when runners were on base. The Atoms were able to push across three runs in the top of the 7th but it wasn't enough as the final ended at 9-3. The Atoms lose some key pieces and look to build around some returning underclassman in 2025.

Softball traveled to Woodson Tuesday evening in the region first round. Unfortunately the bats were cold for the Atoms. Woodson set the tone shutting down the Atoms throughout the game and not allowing a run, winning the game 10-0 to end the season. The Atoms played hard and showed resilience all year long and return a core number of players and look to build on the success they've had over the last two years.

Boys Soccer looked to secure their first district championship since 1993 on Monday evening at Lewis. The Atoms got off to a great start, scoring in the first two minutes to lead 1-0. However, the next 30 minutes were all Lewis as the Lancers scored 3 goals before the Atoms snuck one in to make it 3-2 with under ten to play in the half. The Lancers got one more to lead 4-2 at the break. The second half saw the Lancers go up 5-2 before the Atoms showed some energy scoring two to make it 5-4. Unfortunately, the Lancers put the final touches on the game with a goal to bring the final to 6-4. The Atoms moved on to Wednesday and hosted Woodson in the region quarterfinal. It was a back and forth game that saw the Atoms play a man down for the last 25 minutes of the game and a deficit of 2-1. The Atoms were able to sneak one past the goalie to make it 2-2 before Woodson scored the final goal on a deflected ball inside the box that found the back of the net. The Atoms' season came to end Wednesday evening.

Girls Soccer hosted Woodson in the Occoquan Region First Round Monday evening. The Cavaliers got on the board first but the Atoms came right back to tie the score at one. The Cavaliers found the net three more times to make it 4-1 at the half. The Atoms fought hard in the second half but damage had been done, resulting with a 6-2 win for Woodson. The Atoms played hard and should be proud of their accomplishments from this year.

Outdoor Track had a few athletes participate in the Occoquan Region Meet at Robinson this week. The Atoms didn't quite have the performances they were looking for but still made Annandale proud. The girls 4x100 relay team finished in 6th place in the region but fell short of qualifying for state. Jeremiah Nelson finished 4th in the region and with his qualifying jump earlier in the season, he along with Yannis Mbo Ilenga will compete in the state meet next weekend.
