 Hello Mustangs,
I did not want this month to pass without wishing everyone a Happy Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. We also extend a heartfelt thank you to our military members and their families this Memorial Day. As we wrap up our testing season, we are incredibly proud of the knowledge and skills our students have demonstrated. Keep up the fantastic work! Attendance remains important as we gear up for Student Appreciation Week (SAW), June 3rd through 7th. We want our students to take advantage of the fun activities to celebrate them! As we finalize the week, more details will be forthcoming in next week's Mustang Weekly and on Instagram: @southcountyms. Save the date! The 8th grade Royal Ball is coming soon for our graduating 8th graders. Anyone interested in helping with decorations or volunteering please email Karen McGuinness @ karenmcguinness6@gmail.com The sign up genius will be going out soon for donations and volunteer slots for our dance. Although the students have chosen a theme of “Royal Ball” there is no dress code and we encourage the students to dress in whatever makes them feel comfortable.
Qualifications:
- All library books are due Wednesday, May 29th. Students have been receiving overdue notices to their fcpsschools email. We currently have 500+ overdue books that we’d love to have returned! If your student has lost their book, the replacement cost is $10 for hardcovers and $5 for paperbacks, payable using MySchoolBucks or in cash to the Library. 8th grade students with overdue books will not be able to purchase an 8th grade dance ticket. South County High School will be holding a volleyball interest meeting on Thursday, May 30th from 6:30 PM - 7:45 PM in Room F107/109. Please use the Gym Entrance.

Remember to Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance!
It’s a busy time of year, and we know there are many priorities on your plate. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to check your student’s MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.
Free and Reduced-Price Meals
Families who earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals (FRM). However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2024-25 school year will be available this summer.
If you have a current balance and think you may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2023-24 school year.
Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE
Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success. Caregivers can view important information in ParentVUE such as attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores.
Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. A SIS ParentVUE app is available for Apple and Android devices.

Student Testing Results Coming Soon
Later this month, you will begin receiving your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, view this list of tests by grade level on FCPS’ website.
How the results are delivered depends on the test. Scores will be posted in SIS ParentVUE, or sent by mail or from the school or testing organization. Learn what to expect regarding assessment reporting practices and timelines.
Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about student assessments, including what each assessment is testing for and how to interpret the test results. Caregivers should contact their children’s teacher with any testing questions.
