Dear Island Creek Families,

Island Creek Crocs had a great week! Our Crocs have finished SOL Testing! 6th Grade held their Great Debate and our Kindergarten students went on a Field Trip to Green Spring Gardens. We appreciate the financial support from our PTA with providing transportation for our field trips.

Our Read-A-Thon is underway, and students are actively engaging with literacy! READ, READ, READ!

School will be closed Monday for Memorial Day as we express gratitude for those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

All the best,

Jen Fallert Principal jrfallert@fcps.edu

Specials: Music

The 2023-24 school year may be approaching the end, but our musicians are still hard at work at Island Creek! A few highlights from the 4th quarter:

  • We celebrated Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month by listening to music from all of the different regions of Asia.
  • In April, the 3rd graders began recorder study and have been mastering songs with the notes B, A, and G.
  • Kindergarten is mastering the concept of steady beat, demonstrating it by creating beat patterns and tapping a heart chart.
  • Students in other grades are continuing to learn new melodic and rhythmic concepts and are growing as singers by performing more rigorous forms of songs including canons and partner songs.
  • The end of year Chorus concert is on Monday, June 3 and will feature upbeat songs from movies and musicals!
