Weekly Updates - May 24, 2024

Good afternoon, Major Families!

We so excited about the next few weeks! Tonight is our Junior/Senior Prom at the Westin in Old Town.  Prom is always wonderful, giving our students a memory they'll take with them always. The admin team and staff can't wait to see our students this evening!

We don't have school on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day.  We use this day to remember all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.  We also thank all those in the MV community who are currently serving or have served in the past.

Tuesday, May 28, is our seniors' last day of classes and finals.  On Wednesday, several busses will take our seniors to Busch Gardens for a day of fun in the sun! Senior Awards are Thursday, May 30, and our first of 2 mandatory Graduation practices happens on Friday, May 31, along with cap and gown distribution and elementary school visits.

We hope you'll join us on Sunday, June 2, at 4:30, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, for our Interfaith Ceremony.  Seniors in attendance are asked to wear their caps and gowns.

I look forward to seeing so many of you in the coming weeks as we celebrate our seniors!

Karen Boyd, Acting Principal

Laptop Collection for Seniors

Personal Project Donations

Are you in the midst of Spring cleaning? Do you have any items or materials you no longer need in your home that are just occupying space? Please consider donating them to our English 10 team! Every year, our English 10 students complete the IB MYP Personal Project. Often, our students need supplies to complete the project, and the English 10 team would like to create a supply closet that can be used to offer materials to students in need of extra support.

Our students often complete projects in the following categories: Baking, Cooking, Cosmetology, Crafting, Creative Writing, Culture, Design, Family, Games, Health, Invention, Music, Performing Arts, Sports, Technology, and Visual Arts.

If you would like to donate items that might help students complete their projects -  i.e. knitting needles, yarn, fabric, cameras, paint, baking pans, sports equipment, gardening supplies, musical instruments, markers, etc. - please contact Kimberly Dooley in Library Study B, kpdooley@fcps.edu.

There will be more opportunities to donate at the start of next school year, so keep the English 10 team in mind if you happen upon some items you no longer need throughout the summer.
