Principal's Message

Greetings Tiger Families!

As we approach the last week of May we are engrossed in the work of successfully bringing the 2023-24 school year to a close while also continuing our planning for an even more successful 2024-25 school year. A part of the planning that we will embark on as a school community is to review and assess what strategies and supports we have in place to foster positive behaviors and decision making amongst our student body. In order to include the perspective of families in that work, we will be sending out a brief (I promise!) survey related to our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) protocols. PBIS is a proactive approach to improving school safety and promoting positive behavior. When partnered with traditional school behavior interventions, as outlined in the FCPS Students Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R), PBIS has the ability to create a safer, more inclusive and more structured environment that allows students to thrive. Thank you in advance for considering taking a few moments to respond to our survey when you receive it.

Please have a restful and peaceful long weekend as we celebrate Memorial Day on Monday. As we all pause to celebrate and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms, the quote below from President Truman rings as true now as it did 80 years ago.

“Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.”    President Harry S. Truman

Sincerely,

Matt

End of Year Medication Pick-Up

Twain’s health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school, Wednesday June 12th. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

Student Testing Results Coming Soon

This month, you will begin receiving your child’s spring assessment results. To see which assessments your child took this year, view this list of tests by grade level

Depending on the test, scores may be posted in SIS ParentVUE, or sent by mail from the school or testing organization. Learn what to expect regarding assessment reporting practices and timelines

Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about assessments, including what each assessment is testing for and how to interpret results. Caregivers should contact their children’s schools with any testing questions.

New SOL Growth Reports for Grade 3-8 Tests

Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) test results — along with other student data — help pinpoint where students may need additional academic support.

The Virginia Department of Education has released new SOL Parent Reports to help  families of students who took grade 3-8 SOL math and reading tests this spring interpret the test results they’re receiving.

The Growth Parent Report uses scores from the fall and winter Virginia Growth Assessment and spring SOL to show a student’s academic progress this year.

Learn how to understand your student’s grade 3-8 SOL results and find resources to support their ongoing learning.

Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE

Caregivers can view important information in ParentVUE such as attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for your FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. An app is also available for Apple and Android devices.

Need help creating a SIS ParentVUE account? This video explains the steps. Find out more.

If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up-to-date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section. View more information on ParentVUE.
