Message from Ms. Kearns

Hello Bruin Families,

With graduation just over one week away and the end of the school year a week later, it feels like time is running away and we can't quite catch up. Our students have worked hard to get through AP and SOL testing and prepare for final exams. Our teachers are working hard to keep up with grading and prepare for the end of the year. Through it all, I am grateful for the community spirit keeping it all together.

And in case you missed it, LBSS was featured on Fox5 with a story about the mural painted on the back of our 1st base dugout! Check the story out here.

Student Laptop Collection

Senior laptop collection is on Wednesday, May 29th in the Library.

Underclassmen need to return theirs on Tuesday, June 11th or Wednesday, June 12th. June 11th collection will take place after 7th period finals in the Lecture Hall, while June 12th collection will be at the cafeteria. Teachers will guide students to the right spot.

Medications in Health Room

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school – 10am on Wednesday, June 12. Medication left in the health room after that time will be destroyed. Medication cannot be sent home with your student unless your student is authorized to self-carry their medication. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room. If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program. Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school or online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services . If you have any questions, please contact your school health team at LBSSHealthRoom@fcps.edu.”

School Library Book Roundup

It’s that time to return all Lake Braddock library books that have been checked out this year to the school library.  All books are due May 29. Those students who have books checked out have been receiving reminder notices to their fcpsschools.net email address.

A labeled return cart stands outside the library, as well as a return bin immediately inside the library’s door. If a book cannot be found, please come report to a librarian. There are no fines or fees – just want to round up our books at the end of the school year to put back on our library shelves!

No-Cost Virtual Therapy for High School Students

  • Mood/behavior changes, motivation, grief/loss
  • Anxiety, worry, fears
  • Social skills, bullying, peer and family relationships
  • Academic stress

In order for students to participate, caregivers must give permission for FCPS to share basic demographic information with Hazel Health in ParentVUE and provide consent. Students can then be referred to therapy by a guardian or school staff member.

Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders

Immunizations are required for all students entering 7th and 12th grades this fall. Visit the FCPS immunization webpage to learn about the required vaccines.  Caregivers should ask their private healthcare provider or the health department to review their student's immunization record to ensure that their student has received these required immunizations.

It is important to schedule immunizations early in the summer, as seventh-grade students must submit documentation of the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines before they begin school in August. Twelfth-grade students must submit documentation of the Meningococcal vaccine. Get more information on all student immunization requirements.

Summer Arts Camp

Don’t miss out on this summer’s most exciting arts enrichment program! The Institute for the Arts camp is for students currently in grade 6-11. Students design their own schedules and select from art, music, theater, and dance classes. Learn more on the IFTA webpage. Email IFTA@fcps.edu with any questions.
