Principal's Message

Hello, Eagle Families,

We want to thank those in our midst who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to our county on this Memorial Day Weekend. There are not enough words to offer comfort and appreciation that would share our sentiments accurately. Please take a moment this weekend to stop and be thankful for all we have because of these sacrifices.

This past Monday, we had a wonderful City of Fairfax AVID Honors Night at FHS. There were AVID students from 4-12th grades in our Fairfax Pyramid with their families to share in accomplishments, a meal, and games. What a lovely way to spend an evening! We had over 200 people in attendance, and we had our rising AVID 7th graders there to sign our AVID banner.

On Tuesday, we had our Rising 7th Grade Parent/Student Night. This included a parent informational session with the new principal, Mr. Smith. We had the students in the café for a student panel followed by a scavenger hunt led by KJMS student leaders. The event ended with an activities, sports, and club fair for students and parents in the gym. If you could not make it to this event, there will be summer opportunities to get to know the building and meet Mr. Smith.

The Science SOL was the final SOL for our 8th graders. Our 7th graders finished testing last week. Thank you for your efforts to move appointments and get your Eagle to school for testing. By the way, those efforts are noticed! Our chronic absenteeism rate is down this year compared to last. Thank YOU for partnering with us to tackle this nationwide problem.

Finally, yesterday we honored some local volunteers at our Breakfast for Parent Readers. We hosted a breakfast for our parents who gave their time to volunteer to read books and participated in book approval conversations. What a great way to support what happens in the classroom with their opinions, advice and experiences.

Enjoy your three-day weekend of sunshine and swimming (those pools are opening!),

Dr. Silipigni,

Principal

🥗 Don’t Forget to Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance!

It’s a busy time of year, and we know there are many priorities on families’ plates. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to remember to check your students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.

Families that earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals. However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2024-25 school year will be available this summer.

If families have a current balance and think they may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2023-24 school year. Get more information about free and reduced-price lunch.

📈 New SOL Growth Reports for Grade 3-8 TestsVirginia Standards of Learning (SOL) test results, along with other student data, help demonstrate in which subjects or topics students may need additional academic support.

The Growth Parent Report ties together scores from fall and winter Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) with the student’s current spring SOL results to show their trend in academic progress this year.
