May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month

Fitness Month

May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.  At Key Center we are lucky to have a team of three Adapted Physical Education teachers who support our students’ physical fitness needs.  Adapted Physical Education (APE) is an approach to physical education that is tailored to meet the individual needs of students with disabilities. APE programs provide specialized instruction and modifications to traditional physical education activities to help students with disabilities improve their physical fitness, motor skills, and cognitive abilities. The goal of APE is to ensure that all students, regardless of their abilities, have the opportunity to participate in physical activities and develop lifelong habits of physical fitness and well-being. By providing adaptive equipment and teaching strategies, APE programs aim to remove barriers to participation and help students with disabilities achieve success in physical education. Many thanks to our wonderful Adapted PE Team:  Sean Ganley, Greg Hoobchaack, and Mike Reish!
