Attendance Matters at Dranesville

Lion King Kids

Students perform Lion King Kids Musical.

Thank you to NextStop Theatre and our PTA for partnering to provide after-school theater programming this Spring. This was a remarkable opportunity for students in grades 3-6 to apply POG attributes and skills to an experience learning and performing a musical. Families and friends enjoyed the Thursday evening performance, and a captive audience of students enjoyed the closing performance on Friday afternoon.

Safety Patrol Applications Open for Students in Grade 5-6

Safety Patrol Applications for 24-25 Due May 31st

The 2024-2025 Dranesville Safety Patrol application is now open. Service in the patrol is open to all students in grades 5-6 pending the completion of their application and signature approval from both a parent/guardian and a teacher. Patrols are selected based on their demonstration of leadership skills within our school community.

The Safety Patrol plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all staff and students during school hours. As a member of the Safety Patrol, your student will have the opportunity to serve as a positive role model for their peers. Patrol expectations include reporting for duty on time with their proper equipment, always ensuring safe practices, knowing, and enforcing all walking and bus rules with respect and fairness, reporting to patrol sponsors and administrators as needed, attending, and participating in all patrol meetings and training sessions, maintaining academics and committing to serving all year. Not only does this role provide valuable leadership experience, but it also instills a sense of responsibility and civic duty in our students.

Applications are due by Friday, May 31st. If you student prefers an online version of the application or needs support with completing the application, please contact Jill Palacios at (703) 326-5200.

📈 New SOL Growth Reports for Grade 3-8 Tests

Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) test results, along with other student data, help demonstrate in which subjects or topics students may need additional academic support.

In order to help interpret SOL results for parents, the Virginia Department of Education has released new Standards of Learning Growth Parent Reports for families of students who took grade 3-8 SOL math and reading tests this spring.

The Growth Parent Report ties together scores from fall and winter Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) with the student’s current spring SOL results to show their trend in academic progress this year.

Learn how to understand your student’s grade 3-8 SOL results and find resources to support their ongoing learning.Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success. Caregivers can view important information in ParentVUE such as attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. A SIS ParentVUE app is available for Apple and Android devices.

Need help creating a SIS ParentVUE account? This video explains the steps. Find out more. To create a new account, please contact our Registrar, Angela Agana amagana@fcps.edu for an activation letter.
