The All Night Grad Party (formerly known as the Cav Cruise) is an event that was started in Fairfax County to keep graduating seniors safe in a “lock-in” all night, drug and alcohol free event. Since the start of these parties in the 1980s, there have been no student deaths associated with FCPS all night grad parties. But we need your help! Senior parents want to host out of town visitors to celebrate their students’ graduation. It is a Woodson tradition that underclass parents “pay it forward” and volunteer to support the All Night Grad Party–your students will benefit from this when they are graduating! Please sign up here to help us make this special event happen–it is a really fun night! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0B4AA8AC2FA7FBC16-49334345-allnight

Woodson had a tough loss against Lake Braddock Thursday. The team couldn’t get their bats going and lost 10-0. The girls are back at it this week for regional play!

4x800 relay team Nahom Hailemariam, Thomas Warden, Aidan Jones, Zain Elcock
Congratulations to everyone for some great performances at the Patriot District Championships last week and to Kendall and Justin Anderson for breaking the school record in the 400m (Justin 47.89 and Kendall 56.94). Overall, we had a lot of improvements and qualifications to Regionals. As a team we placed 6th for the girls and 7th for the boys, but are taking 30 athletes to the Occoquan Regional Championships and are proud to have so many athletes move on to the next level.
JV Baseball:
Woodson JV Walks it Off in Dramatic Season-Ending Victory over South County.
Woodson's JV Baseball Team scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th inning in a come from behind walk-off victory over the South County Stallions. The final score was 7-6.
Designated hitter Kai McMurry got the scoring started for the Cavaliers in the 3rd inning with an RBI double to deep left field which scored Tommy Quigley from 3rd base. McMurry later advanced to 3rd and then scored when an attempted throw to double him off the bag following a hard hit line-out skipped past the third baseman and went to the fence. McMurry scooted across the plate and Woodson was up 2-0 after 3 innings.
Cavs sophomore hurler Adam Stuhrke got the start and went 4 and 1/3 strong innings, giving up 5 hits, 3 earned runs, and 2 walks against 5 strikeouts. Callum Keller and Caleb Nobel combined for two innings of 1 earned run relief and closer Will Wise would earn the win by striking out both hitters he faced after inheriting a 2 runners on, 1-out situation in the top of the 7th inning. After 6.5 innings, Woodson trailed South County 6-5.
But Wise wasn't satisfied with the clutch strikeouts. In the bottom of the 7th, Nick Prabhakar reached base on a fielder's choice, advanced to second on a throwing error, and advanced to third on a 1-out single by Evan Honeysett who appeared to have re-injured a hamstring earlier in the game and who was noticeably hobbled throughout the contest. Prabhakar then scored the tying run on a bloop RBI single by Tim Lee that fell from the night sky harmlessly behind the infield while Honeysett limped into 2nd. Wise then stepped to the plate and lined a game-winning, walk-off single to right field as Honeysett limped around 3rd base and across home plate. He and Wise were met by a rush of teammates who swarmed the field in celebration of a glorious and season-ending victory.
Varsity Girls Lacrosse:
The Woodson Cavaliers girls' lacrosse team experienced an intense week of postseason action. On Tuesday night, they clashed with the Robinson Rams for the Patriot District championship. The game began with a stalemate, highlighted by stellar saves from senior goalie Maddie Gaboury. However, the tide turned in the second quarter as a few costly penalties and missed draw controls allowed Robinson to edge ahead. In the second half, Robinson's high-pressure, strong-handed defense stifled Woodson's motion offense, and lack of draw controls ultimately lead to a loss for the Cavaliers. Woodson points: Greer Dempster (1 goal), Reese Cuviello (1 assist), Milla Cronin (1 goal), Kaitlyn Viilu (1 goal).
On Friday night, the Woodson Cavaliers roared back to life in the Occoquan regional tournament quarterfinals with a commanding victory over the Alexandria City Titans. The Cavaliers ignited the scoreboard early, thanks to senior Julia Lieberman's crease roll off a pick. The scoring frenzy continued as senior Greer Dempster connected with senior Ilsa Castleton, Lieberman found senior Milla Cronin, and senior Reese Cuviello set up Dempster in a seamless transition. Lieberman and Cronin executed a flawless give-and-go, and with just two seconds left in the first quarter, senior Alex Walrath dished to Cronin for another goal.
The first half closed with Cuviello scoring on a one-on-one isolation and Lieberman capitalizing on an interception for a quick strike. In the second half, the Cavaliers maintained their offensive dominance by winning draw controls and showcasing excellent field awareness and rapid ball transitions, orchestrated by senior defender Ella Mathias. The third quarter saw more goals with Viilu sweeping in a score, Lieberman assisting Cuviello, and Viilu feeding Cronin.
Holding a solid lead into the fourth quarter, the Cavaliers gave additional players some action, resulting in goals from juniors Elle Marshal on an 8-meter shot and Alli Leonard off a turnover. The celebratory win concluded with a birthday celebration featuring Nothing Bundt Cakes. Up next for the Lady Cavs is a challenging semifinal matchup against Justice High School on Tuesday. Woodson points: Julia Lieberman (2 goal, 3 assist), Milla Cronin (4 goals, 1 assist), Greer Dempster (1 goal, 1 assist), Reese Cuviello (2 goal, 1 assist), Ilsa Castleton (1 goal), Alex Walrath (1 assist), Kaitlyn Viilu (1 goal, 1 assist), Elle Marshal (1 goal), Alli Leonard (1 goal).
