Hello, Scottie families!
What an amazing PTO Spring Carnival last week! Thank you to all our staff and PTO volunteers for supporting this fun family event!
As we continue to plan for our summer bookmobile, we need your support! Please consider making a donation of any new or gently used books to contribute to this summer reading initiative! New and/or gently used books will be collected through June 10, 2024 in boxes outside in the main lobby. See the bookmobile section below for more information.

A few amazing highlights that happened this week...
Memorial Day Holiday
All schools and offices will be closed on Monday, May 27, for the Memorial Day holiday. Learn about the history of Memorial Day. See the complete school year calendar.
Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow.
As we approach the end of the school year, it’s important for students to stay engaged, attend school, and finish strong! Visit our website for attendance resources. We continue to share weekly absenteeism updates here through the end of the year. As of May 24, 2024, Bonnie Brae's absenteeism rate is at 13.2%. This is an decrease from last week. Be sure to send your child to school when healthy, and help us continue to decrease our overall percentage of students who are considered chronically absent (as a reminder, chronic absenteeism is missing 10% or more of days in a school year, regardless of excused or unexcused).
Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast!
Have you volunteered to chaperone, work in the library, support a classroom, prepare materials, or help with classroom events?
Come celebrate with us on Thursday, May 30, from 8:30-9:15 AM in the cafeteria! We are partnering with the PTO to provide this opportunity to thank all of our wonderful volunteers. For planning purposes, volunteers are asked to please RSVP at this link to share their intentions for the event.
Sixth Grade Promotion Ceremony
Due to space constraints, we will be hosting our 6th grade promotion ceremony in two different locations: 9 AM (Koehler & Vericker's classes) in the cafeteria and 9:15 AM (Wilks, Turner, & Sorenson's classes) in the gym. We are excited to celebrate our 6th graders promotion to middle school! This is a special day for our 6th grade students and families, and we look forward to recognizing them on Tuesday, June 11!

Field Day Volunteers Needed
Bonnie Brae's field day is on Friday, June 7 (unfortunately, not able to schedule a possible rain date). We are in need of volunteers to manage stations. If you are able to volunteer on June 7, please see our Field Day SignUpGenius.
Student Testing Results Coming Soon
Later this month, you will begin receiving your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, view this list of tests by grade level on FCPS’ website.
How the results are delivered depends on the test. Scores will be posted in SIS ParentVUE, or sent by mail or from the school or testing organization. Learn what to expect regarding assessment reporting practices and timelines.
Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about student assessments, including what each assessment is testing for and how to interpret the test results. Caregivers should contact their children’s teacher with any testing questions.
New SOL Growth Reports for Grade 3-8 Tests
Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) test results, along with other student data, help demonstrate in which subjects or topics students may need additional academic support.
In order to help interpret SOL results for parents, the Virginia Department of Education has released new Standards of Learning Growth Parent Reports for families of students who took grade 3-8 SOL math and reading tests this spring.
The Growth Parent Report ties together scores from fall and winter Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) with the student’s current spring SOL results to show their trend in academic progress this year.
Learn how to understand your student’s grade 3-8 SOL results and find resources to support their ongoing learning.
Bonnie Brae Bookmobile
Bonnie Brae Elementary School (BBES) will continue the Bonnie Brae Bookmobile to provide books to students during Summer 2024. The Bonnie Brae Bookmobile will run on June 27, 2024 from 12 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. and July 18, 2024 from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and will be stopping at four locations in the community, with the last stop being the BBES parking lot, to distribute books and popsicles to interested students.
Please consider making a donation of a new or gently used book(s). New and/or gently used books will be collected May 20, 2024 through June 10, 2024 in the foyer at Bonnie Brae ES. There will be labeled boxes to leave the books. Questions or suggestions? Please contact Karen Radcliffe at keradcliffe@fcps.edu.
Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE
Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success. Caregivers can view important information in ParentVUE such as attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores.
Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. A SIS ParentVUE app is available for Apple and Android devices.
Need help creating a SIS ParentVUE account? This video explains the steps. Find out more. To create a new account, please contact Mrs. Jenny Rios Godoy (jrriosgodoy@fcps.edu) for an activation letter.
If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up-to-date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section. View more information.
Don’t Forget to Check Your Student’s Lunch Balance!
It’s a busy time of year, and we know there are many priorities on families’ plates. As we approach the end of the school year, it is important to remember to check your students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any remaining school meal balance.
Families that earn less than 185% of poverty level qualify for free and reduced-price meals. However, an application must be completed and submitted each school year to receive that benefit. The application for the 2024-25 school year will be available this summer.
If families have a current balance and think they may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals, please fill out the FRM application for the 2022-23 school year. Get more information about free and reduced-price lunch.
Enjoy Fun and Resources at the Summer Extravaganza

Families are invited to take part in engaging educational activities designed to spark curiosity and growth. Community organizations will be providing tips, resources, and helpful information. Visit the Summer Extravaganza webpage for details and register to attend. Registration is not required, but it’s helpful for planning purposes.
