Principal Dowling's Message

Dear Bailey’s Upper Families,

This week was another amazing week with your children. I learned how to make a sensory garden, met with some 5th grade students during their lunch, continued to meet with staff members and I was even able to meet with a few parents.

All of the conversations continue to be around how amazing this place is for both staff and families. The students shared that they love their teachers, enjoy the cafeteria because of the windows, and can sit with friends and talk. Some of the students shared that they wished they had more time and equipment to play with at recess and they gave me some great ideas (I have a running list🙂). One student even told me how I could make the lunches taste better and teach them independence, I just need to find room outside to plant a full garden! Each conversation continues to give me insight into the amazing things already happening here and the small ways we can enhance our student's experiences.

I held my 45th individual meeting with staff members today, and this is extremely important to me. The information I am learning is invaluable as we close out this year and head into summer; they are the amazing people behind the work happening all year. They continue to share their different ideas for after-school clubs, recess, and experiences they want to ensure our students have. Next year is going to be amazing as we make some of their ideas a reality.

See below for some pictures of our Green Team and our Science Teacher Ms. Rozick. They worked with Merrifield Garden Center to plant a sensory garden. Students can touch lamb ears, and smell mint, rosemary, and lavender. Next time you are here be sure to stop by to touch, smell, and see the different plants. Thank you Ms. Rozick. 💚

We hope you can take time to relax, enjoy the company of loved ones, and reflect on the sacrifices made by those who have served our country this Memorial Day Weekend.

Save the date for a Popsicles with the New Principal on Monday, June 3rd from 5:30 - 6:30 at the Bailey’s Primary playground.

Wishing you well,

Ms. Dowling

Student Testing Results Coming Soon

Later this month, you will begin receiving your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, view this list of tests by grade level on FCPS’ website.

How the results are delivered depends on the test. Scores will be posted in SIS ParentVUE, or sent by mail or from the school or testing organization. Learn what to expect regarding assessment reporting practices and timelines

Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about student assessments, including what each assessment is testing for and how to interpret the test results. Caregivers should contact their children’s teacher with any testing questions.

📈 New SOL Growth Reports for Grade 3-8 Tests

Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) test results, along with other student data, help demonstrate in which subjects or topics students may need additional academic support.

In order to help interpret SOL results for parents, the Virginia Department of Education has released new Standards of Learning Growth Parent Reports for families of students who took grade 3-8 SOL math and reading tests this spring.

The Growth Parent Report ties together scores from fall and winter Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) with the student’s current spring SOL results to show their trend in academic progress this year.

Learn how to understand your student’s grade 3-8 SOL results and find resources to support their ongoing learning.

Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE

Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success. Caregivers can view important information in ParentVUE such as attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. A SIS ParentVUE app is available for Apple and Android devices.

Need help creating a SIS ParentVUE account? This video explains the steps. Find out more. To create a new account, please contact the school at 703-503-2700 for an activation letter.

If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up-to-date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section. View more information.
