Get 2 Green

TC Families,

Way to go Eco club, fourth graders and sixth graders at Terra Centre for their honorable mention award in the earth force watershed entry this year. This is Terra Centre’s first time participating in such a large scale watershed initiative. Students are very excited to hang this banner for all to see.

Our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students had an amazing spring concert last night and it was great to see so many family members come out to support our fine arts program!

As a reminder, all FCPS schools are closed on Monday, May 27th for the Memorial Day holiday. We welcome students back on Tuesday, May 28th. We hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Teresa Lewis, Assistant Principal

Important Information

Medication Pick Up

Medication stored in the school health room must be picked up by student dismissal on the last day of school to avoid destruction.

  • Parents or guardians must collect medications; they cannot be sent home with students.
  • High school students may transport over-the-counter medications with parental permission.
  • For summer programs by Fairfax County Public Schools, existing medication authorization forms can be used, but medication must be picked up on the last day of school and delivered to the summer learning site on the program's first day.

TCTV/Safety Patrol Applications for rising 5th and 6th graders

We are excited to announce that it's time for our TCTV news and Safety Patrol sign-ups for the 2024-2025 school year. If your rising 5th and/or 6th grade child is interested, please take a moment to have them fill out the form using their FCPS Google account: TCTV/Safety Patrol application

The selection process includes students completing the Google form, indicating their interest in becoming a member of TCTV News or Safety Patrol, teacher recommendations, and a review of citizenship grades from the current school year.

For students who apply but are not initially selected, they will be placed on a waitlist based on the specific area of need, whether it be for walker or bus duties.

TCTV and Safety Patrols will be announced the first week of school.

Optional Parent Input - 2024-2025 Class Placements

As we begin planning for the upcoming school year, our staff collaborates regarding student placements.  A variety of factors such as student personalities, friendships, and academic abilities are considered as we create our new classes.  Other factors impacting the decision-making process of student class assignments are new student enrollments and teachers moving to a new assignment.

Terra Centre families may assist in this process by sharing insights. Please note the following when providing information. We do not accept requests for specific teachers for the upcoming grade placement.  This includes hints that reference specific teachers.  We cannot guarantee friend requests nor exceptions for other students whereby there may be a conflict. We do our best to create a positive learning year for your child.

Please provide your input by submitting this form as it will ensure we have your request.  Please do not email us additional information.  Completion of the form is optional. However, the deadline for any correspondence is Friday, May 31st at 4:00 PM. Thank you for your input.

Student Testing Results Coming Soon

Later this month, you will begin receiving your child’s spring assessment results. If you aren’t sure what assessments your child took this year, view this list of tests by grade level on FCPS’ website.

How the results are delivered depends on the test. Scores will be posted in SIS ParentVUE, or sent by mail or from the school or testing organization. Learn what to expect regarding assessment reporting practices and timelines

Visit FCPS’ website for additional information about student assessments, including what each assessment is testing for and how to interpret the test results. Caregivers should contact their children’s teacher with any testing questions.

New SOL Growth Reports for Grade 3-8 Tests

Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) test results, along with other student data, help demonstrate in which subjects or topics students may need additional academic support.

In order to help interpret SOL results for parents, the Virginia Department of Education has released new Standards of Learning Growth Parent Reports for families of students who took grade 3-8 SOL math and reading tests this spring.

The Growth Parent Report ties together scores from fall and winter Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) with the student’s current spring SOL results to show their trend in academic progress this year.

Learn how to understand your student’s grade 3-8 SOL results and find resources to support their ongoing learning.Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success. Caregivers can view important information in ParentVUE such as attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. A SIS ParentVUE app is available for Apple and Android devices.

Need help creating a SIS ParentVUE account? This video explains the steps. Find out more. To create a new account, please contact [school registrar’s name and email] for an activation letter.

If you already have an account, be sure your contact information is up-to-date. Parents/guardians can update their phone numbers or email addresses in the Parent/Guardian section. View more information
