The Clearview Community Connect

Stronger together

Dear Clearview Families,

Can you believe it? With just a few short weeks left in the school year, it's time to start thinking about those lazy summer days... but wait! Summer doesn't have to mean a break from learning! Here at Clearview, we see summer as a launchpad for continued growth and exploration.

Our students have accomplished so much this year, and we want to keep that momentum going. While summer should be a time for rest and relaxation, incorporating some fun and engaging learning activities can help prevent the "summer slide" and keep those young minds sharp.

Here are some ideas to spark your child's summer learning adventure:

  • Embrace the Outdoors: Turn nature walks into scavenger hunts, identify local plants and animals, or have your child keep a journal of their summer explorations.
  • Read, Read, Read! Visit your local library, build a family fort for reading adventures, or encourage your child to write their own stories.
  • Get Creative: Explore art projects using everyday materials, practice writing with a summer journal, or build a mini-science lab at home.
  • Learning Through Play: Board games can develop strategic thinking, card games build memory, and even cooking can teach valuable math skills.

We will also continue to share information about summer camps and on-line learning opportunities (like Tutor.com). Remember, learning can happen anywhere, anytime.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or compliments you may have. If you have seen a Clearview staff member going above and beyond, fill out an FCPS Cares here.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Social and Emotional Learning Screener Results  Now Available on SIS ParentVUE (Grades 3-6)

FCPS students in grades 3-6 took the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener during March, providing updated information on skills such as achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships with adults and peers, and making responsible decisions. The SEL Screener also helps students evaluate their school community’s efforts to make them feel valued, included, and supported.

Results are now available for families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent via postal mail.

Get more information about the screener on the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage. For support in understanding your individual student’s results or ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or contact your student’s teacher.

End-of-Year Medication Disposal Guidelines

All medications currently in the Health Room must be picked up by parents by June 12 at 3:00 pm. The parent or guardian must transport medications to and from school. Medicine not picked up by June 12 will be discarded.

An FCPS authorization form is required for any medicine kept at school and a new form is needed for each school year. Forms may be obtained from the school or on the FCPS School Health Services webpage.  For additional information, call our School Health Aide, Stephanie Andrade, at 703-708-6010 or Public Health Nurse, Shannon Mansfield, at 571-373-0922.

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow.

Supporting Your Child's Success with Solpass

We at Clearview are dedicated to supporting our students in every way possible, and as SOL testing season is upon us, we want to highlight a valuable resource available to families: Solpass.org. This Virginia-based website provides engaging practice activities and review materials specifically aligned with the SOL tests in Math, Reading, Science and Social Studies for elementary, middle  and high schoolers. Designed to supplement, not replace, classroom instruction, Solpass offers a convenient way to boost your child's confidence and support their learning journey at home. We are incredibly proud of the hard work and growth our students have demonstrated throughout the year, and we encourage you to utilize Solpass as a tool to further their success.

Keeping Students Safe and Savvy Online: Partnering for Success

The internet offers a vast world of exploration and connection for our Clearview Elementary students. From engaging research to fun games with friends, it's a valuable tool in their educational journey. But just like exploring a new park, we want to ensure our students have the skills and knowledge to navigate it safely.

At Clearview, we weave digital citizenship lessons into our curriculum, fostering critical thinking and responsible online behavior. However, open communication at home is equally important. NetSmartz (https://missingkids.org/netsmartz/home) provides excellent resources to help you have age-appropriate conversations with your child about internet safety.

Many popular platforms students enjoy prioritize safety as well. Take Roblox, for instance, which offers robust parental controls. Explore these settings together with your child to establish boundaries and monitor activity (https://corporate.roblox.com/parents/).

Remember, the goal is to empower your child to make responsible choices online. By working as a team – parents, students, and Clearview Elementary – we can create a safe and enriching digital experience for our future generation of web explorers.
