Principal's Message

Greetings Tiger Families!

Today we completed our 8th grade science SOL exam, which brings our three Virginia Department of Education required exams to a close. We will continue to engage in make-up and retake exams over the next two weeks as we bring “testing season” to its conclusion. I have characterized these exams as “Celebrations of Learning,” and although I am confident that most of our students do not exactly view them that way, I do believe that our students’ collective and individual successes on these exams are more than worthy of celebration. The hard work it takes for teachers to plan and execute lessons, the diligence it takes for students to consistently engage in their learning while also grappling with the myriad of challenges they face in adolescence, and the dedication it takes families to provide encouragement and support all blend together to form any academic success we see on a test report. Every test score, whether passing or not, has an individual story behind it filled with triumphs and challenges that are unique to each student.

I look forward to examining Twain’s “story” as the data comes in and using it to inform our planning for next school year. But, before we bring the 2023-24 school year to its culmination, we are committed to a strong finish for all of our students – especially our 8th graders who will be moving on to high school next year.

Have a wonderful weekend Tigers.

Sincerely,

Matt
