Family Newsletter 5/17/24

Principal's Note

Dear Cameron Community,

As we reflect on the past school year, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the tireless efforts and unwavering support of our Parent Teacher Association (PTA). This incredible team has been the backbone of so many enriching activities and initiatives that have enhanced our students' learning experiences and fostered a vibrant school community. We would like to extend our deepest thanks to this year’s PTA officers: Lee Wilson (President), Honeyhline Heidemann (Vice-President), and Annie Roussy (Treasurer).

Under their leadership, our PTA has not only successfully organized but also generously supported various key events, including field trips for different grade levels, the much-loved school dance, family-friendly movie nights, the festive Hallowingo, and our enjoyable Family Picnic. The PTA’s commitment shone brightly during Teacher Appreciation Week, making our wonderful teachers feel valued and supported. Moreover, their efforts in orchestrating our first Fun Run was a resounding success, raising an impressive $14,000! These funds will go a long way in supporting our school’s programs and future activities.

As we bid farewell to this year’s officers, we are excited to welcome our new PTA President for the 2024-2025 school year, Ms. Annie Roussy. Having already shown incredible dedication as our Treasurer, we are confident that her leadership will usher in another successful chapter for our school.

Thank you once again to all our PTA members and volunteers for your dedication. It is your hard work and passion that help make Cameron a wonderful place for our children to learn and grow.

With warmest regards,

Mr. Eric T. Johnson

Principal

Arrival & Dismissal

📋 Check-Ins

Please remember, if your child arrives after 9:20AM, you must escort them into the main office and sign them in. Students are not admitted into the building until 9:00AM. Unless, you have something prearranged with a teacher or your child attends SACC. Please do not drop your student off at school any earlier, there will be no adult supervision available.

🚪Check-Outs

Please remember you must sign your student out in the main office. Be prepared to show your photo ID when you arrive. The office works efficiently to retrieve students from wherever they are in building, so please arrive early enough to give staff enough time to locate your student so you can arrive at your next destination on time. The front office will not call for students prior to parents arrival for pickup. All student exchanges and contact must go through the office. If dismissal changes are going to occur please notify the main office by 2pm to give us ample time to notify the teachers. Thanks for your cooperation in making sure our student population is safe while at school!

2024-2025 Class Placement and Family Input

Class Placement Family Input

We are starting to work on our plans for the 2024-2025 school year!  Class placements are an essential component of learning and building community. If you have information that you would like us to consider as we determine placements, please share your input by answering a few questions in the attached form. We know that a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success, and we carefully consider each child’s strengths and needs during this process. Please do not request specific teachers, as this does not take into account the many variables we must take into consideration. It is far more valuable to share particular academic or behavioral information. Completion of this form is optional. If you would like to provide input, you may use this online form or a hard copy may be sent to the office by May 17th. This is a hard deadline.

Attendance matters!

We want you to keep your child home when they are sick, however, we ask that you please refrain from scheduling trips and other non-essential travel during the school week.

Please remember to email or call the attendance line with any messages regarding your student's attendance. Absences and late arrivals should be reported to avoid getting a robo-call from FCPS. If you email the teacher to let them know about your student's attendance, please copy CameronElem.Attendance@fcps.edu to ensure your message reaches our attendance staff. You can also call, 703-329-2129 to report any attendance messages.
