KPES Grows in Leadership Staffing for School Year 2024-2025

I am thrilled to announce that KPES has been allocated a second Assistant Principal to support the overall growth in enrollment and programing at KPES. During the month of April several interview panels were convened and with input from local school staff, KPKG PTA and the Region 4 leadership office, I am pleased to announce that Anna Kaplan has been selected to join KPES on July 9, 2024.

Anna Kaplan is completing her 3rd year as an assistant principal for a PK3 through 8th grade school in Washington D.C. where she has also served as a 4th and 5th grade teacher and interventionist. Before that, she taught 2nd grade at a PK-5 school in Ward 7.

Anna Kaplan earned her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Wake Forest University and her Master’s from The George Washington University. Her experience in education has been defined by a deep commitment to inclusion, strong instruction, equitable practice, and family engagement. As a former reading teacher and reading specialist, her passion lies in foundational literacy, and is committed to the holistic development of all students in STEM, the arts and social and emotional learning.

Welcome Anna!

Meet Me at the Library - This Thursday, May 23rd

We are excited to be partnering with WETA and hosting our last Meet Me at the Library event for the 23-24 school year! This event is a  great opportunity for families to listen to stories, play some games, and participate in activities to promote literacy, math skills, and problem solving skills. On Thursday, May 23rd, families are invited to the Kings Park Public Library (9000 Burke Lake Rd, Burke, VA 22015) at 5:00 PM for an hour-long session focusing on Building Resiliency with some amazing Kings Park teachers and staff.

This workshop provides tools for teaching young children how to embrace mistakes and bounce back when things don’t go as planned. This is a free event for Kings Park students.  Every student that attends will receive a free book from WETA. We hope to see you in the Community Meeting Room at the Kings Park Public Library on Thursday, May 23rd at 5:00!
