 The Music Man, Jr. performances continue through the weekend!

Good afternoon, Franklin Community,
It is hard to believe we have less than 1 month remaining in the school year! We have many end of year activities and culminating events so please review upcoming dates below for anything that might be of interest to you and your family. Last night we had our opening night of our spring musical, The Music Man Jr. There are 3 additional performances, including tonight and one tomorrow afternoon and evening, to check out our incredibly talented students! Tickets are selling quickly so please secure your spot if you are able to attend! I also want to thank our director, Sierra Lockrem, as well as the countless parent volunteers who have helped to make these performances so successful.
In addition to reviewing the calendar for these last few weeks of school, I also encourage you to continue monitoring your child’s grades, including SOL scores, in Parentvue. I recognize there is a lot of testing and projects involved as we wrap up the school year so please reach out to your child’s teacher or counselor if you have questions about grades, retakes or need any support with your child.

SOL Test Updates
Thank you for your support as we navigate the SOL Tests. We are excited for students to demonstrate what they have learned and the skills they have developed this year!
Upcoming Test:
- Tuesday, May 21: Math SOL Tests- Updated Bell Schedule
Receiving Scores – Students will receive scores from the SOL from their content teacher once scores have been received back. After scores have been shared with students, teachers will also post the SOL score in the gradebook as a not-for-grade assignment so that parents/guardians can also see the scores.
Testing Materials – Please ensure your student has a book or other reading material for after they have finished their test (no eReaders allowed). Classrooms remain in a testing environment to ensure all students are able to focus and do their best, so it is important that students can engage in something independently, without technology, after their test is submitted.
National Junior Honor Society Ceremonies
We are excited to welcome families for our annual National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) ceremonies.
Seventh Grade Induction Ceremony- Monday, May 20 2:45 PM-- Gym
Please join us as we induct our 7th grade members into NJHS. Students who have been accepted into NJHS have received communication via Schoology about their membership. The induction ceremony will take place in the gym and start promptly at 2:45 PM, doors to the gym will open at 2:35 PM. We ask that you plan your arrival as close to 2:35 as possible to not interfere with dismissal traffic. The ceremony should last approximately an hour. Students can leave with their family after or stay for second block and take the late bus home. Questions: Contact Ms. Bridenbaugh
Eight Grade Pinning Ceremony—Tuesday, May 21 3:00 PM-- Gym
Please join us as we recognize the service and academic accomplishments of our 8th grade NJHS members as they receive their service pin. The Pinning ceremony will begin at 3:00 PM and should last approximately an hour. We will have a brief reception after the ceremony. Students may leave with their family after the ceremony and reception or stay to take the late bus home. Questions: Contact Ms. Tourtellotte
End of the Year Celebration
Thank you to all who have volunteered to support the 8th grade End of Year celebration. More are needed to ensure the 7th graders have a great time as well! The 7th grade party will run from 8:30-10:30 the morning of June 10, 2024.

Pre-registration for the Community Conversation is not required but will help FCPS plan. Childcare and interpretation services will be provided based on staff availability. Event is open to all. Learn about other opportunities to connect with Dr. Reid.
Student Intention Forms
The school year is almost over and we are preparing for the 2024-2025 school year. If you are moving over the summer and your child is not returning to FMS next school year, please notify us by completing the Intention From and emailing Ms. Smith at kchevannessm@fcps.edu at your earliest convenience. This information will enable us to prepare transcript information so that it is available when requested by your child’s school.
Franklin MS 8th Grade Formal
Franklin will host the 8th Grade Formal on Friday, May 31, from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM. Tickets for the formal will be $5.00 and can be purchased on MySchoolBucks-School Store through May 28, 2024. No tickets will be sold at the door for the dance and must be purchased in advance.
If you would like to volunteer to help for the evening please complete the google form to indicate your availability to volunteer for the evening.

Medication Pickup
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than 12:15pm, Wednesday, June 12, 2024. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.
If your child will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, your existing long-term medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

Student Laptop Chargers
Students are responsible for charging their laptops every night so that they are able to fully participate in learning throughout the school day. Please check in with your student to ensure they have a charger and are actively keeping their school laptop charged. This will be particularly important prior SOL testing days. If your student needs a replacement charger, the cost is $23.00. You can purchase one through MySchoolBucks, or send in cash or check.
Oakton HS Hidden in Plain Sight (HIPS) Presentation
Oakton HS will have a Hidden in Plain Sight (HIPS) presentation for the Oakton Pyramid. HIPS is a community awareness program to enlighten parents through a unique learning experience encompassing insights into potentially risky behavior. The presentation will be at OHS in the Lecture Hall on May 30, 2024 from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM.
Oakton HS Dance Team Spring Prep Clinic
If you love to dance and are interested in trying out for the Oakton High School Dance team for the 2024-25 school year or the year after, the Dance Team is holding a Prep Clinic May 20, 22, 28, and 30 from 4-6pm at Oakton HS, open to students in grades 7-11. The clinic will teach a variety of skills and choreography that will be helpful for preparing for tryouts. If you are interested in participating in the Dance Team Prep Clinic, complete the Spring Prep Clinic Interest Form to receive the registration form and information. 💻Techstravaganza at Thomas Jefferson HS
This year will be the 20th annual Techstravaganza on Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at TJHSST. Techstravaganza is a free, public, hands-on STEM activity fair for elementary and middle school students in Northern Virginia. In previous years, more than 4,500 students have participated in over 70 labs presenting STEM activities. Exhibitors include TJHSST clubs and volunteers from organizations like NASA SCaN, Art of Problem Solving, George Mason University, American Society of Naval Engineers, and the National Air and Space Museum.
Admission is free and there will be food for sale. Here is the registration form. More information about the event can be found at tjtechstrav.org.
Chantilly HS Chess Tournament
Chantilly HS is hosting the Charger Chess Tournament on Saturday, May 25, from 9:00AM-5:00PM. Entrants will play in three different sections based on grade level. For more information please email ChantillyChessClub@gmail.com or scan the QR Code to register.
Chantilly HS Football
Interested rising 9th Graders may begin joining us for strength and conditioning sessions at CHS Monday/Wednesday/Thursday from 3:10-4:15. Additionally, we have a parent/guardian info meeting scheduled for May 29 at 7 pm in the CHS library.

CyberPatriot Camp at Chantilly Academy
Chantilly Academy is supporting STEM and cybersecurity education by hosting an AFA CyberPatriot Camp this summer! This camp welcomes students of all skill levels, so we encourage anyone interested in cybersecurity to register. This is an opportunity to learn the importance of cybersecurity and gain the skills to protect yourself and others from cyber threats on a variety of operating systems.
Dates: June 24-28
Where:Chantilly Academy (4201 Stringfellow Rd, Chantilly, VA)
Cost: $200 for the week (includes materials, camp t-shirt, and lunch each day)

MS Sports Physicals 2023-2024 School Year
Athletic physicals are required for middle and high school student-athletes. Beginning May 1, 2024, FCPS high schools will offer athletic pre-participation physical exams for students interested in middle school sports during the 2024-25 school year. These events serve as the primary fundraiser for our high school athletic training programs and each exam costs $50. Rising middle school students are eligible to receive a physical at no cost although donations to the HS athletic training program are welcomed.
Pre-registration is highly encouraged; walk-in appointments may not be available. You can register here: Student registration. Once your registration is received, the school’s athletic trainer will contact you to confirm your appointment time. Athletic physical exams must be completed on this form: FCPS Middle School Sports Athletic Participation/Parental Consent/Physical Examination Form (PPE).
