Principal's Message

Happy Friday!

We hope all of our mothers had Eagles who showered them with love and appreciation last weekend. Dads, your time will come in June!

It was another busy week at KJMS. Congrats to the Band students for a successful spring performance. All of our Eagles did a nice job managing their time and doing their best on the Reading SOL on Wednesday. Our Captains led the rest of the 7th grade on their annual trip to Washington, DC to tour the monuments. They had an amazing time with wonderful weather and a great exhibition of our SOAR traits. Thank you, Captains! We know the Hokies, Patriots, and Spartans will have equally super experiences.

In closing, as you are traveling this summer, consider looking for literature from other cultures that you could purchase and donate to our library. This will help with our monthly efforts to recognize our many communities at KJMS. Some of these books could be used in our monthly display, others may be able to be added to our library collection. We are also looking for donations to our monthly display case of items. Here are the FCPS recognized Heritage Months, Celebrations and Traditions. If you would like to contribute, send items into the front office addressed to: KJMS Equity Lead.

Keep SOARing at home!

Tammy Silipigni,

Principal

SOL Testing Update

We have successfully completed our first round of SOL testing, and we're proud of our students' hard work and dedication.

Looking Ahead: Upcoming SOL Tests

To help students prepare for the remaining tests, here's a reminder of the upcoming assessments:

  • Grade 8 Students
    • Science SOL – Wednesday, May 22nd
      • Make-up – Friday, May 24th
  • Retake Schedule (for students who scored between 399 and 375 on any SOL)
    • Math – Tuesday, May 28th
    • Reading – Wednesday, May 29th
    • Science – Thursday, May 30th
  • Any student who falls into the retake threshold will need to have a parent’s permission to retake the assessment.  Parents will be receiving an email with the link to complete a google form allowing their child to retake the SOL test they are eligible for.

 Stay Encouraged!

We are confident that our students are well-prepared for the remaining SOL tests. Please continue to encourage your child by reminding them to get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and bring a fully charged laptop on testing days.

KJMS - Medication Pickup Information

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than 10:00 PM, Wednesday, June 12, 2024. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded.  It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian.  Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

If your child will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, your existing long-term medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program.  Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

If you have any questions, please contact your school health aide, Sandy Johnson, at 703-934-2410.  Thank you.

Student Laptop Chargers

Students are responsible for charging their laptops every night so that they are able to fully participate in learning throughout the school day. Please check in with your student to ensure they have a charger and are actively keeping their school laptop charged. This will be particularly important prior SOL testing days. If your student needs a replacement charger, the cost is $23.00. You can purchase one through MySchoolBucks, or send in exact cash amount (we do not have change at the school) or check.
