A Day of Hope

.

Rise Up! was launched back in the spring of 2022 as a musical way to raise mental health awareness and celebrate the ability to perform a live public concert again after two years of pandemic restrictions. May 18 will mark Herndon UMC’s third annual Rise Up! concert. A “Day of Hope” for the community that will include free resilience education classes and a resilience fair where people can connect with local mental health and wellness resources. The classes and resilience fair will run from 5-7 pm and the concert will be held at 7 pm. Learn more at bit.ly/riseupherndon.

Sports Physicals

.

Herndon High School will be hosting their Sports Physicals on Monday, May 20th. Take advantage and cross this off your to do list for next year now while supporting the Athletic Training program! The physicals currently on file expire on June 30th, a new physical is needed for next year. After June 30th, students will not be permitted to participate in any team related activities (other than interest meetings) until a new VHSL physical form has been submitted. You are always welcome to get a sports physical through your family physician or an urgent care center, but this event is our Athletic Training Program’s only fundraiser.

Did you know? This is an incredibly important night for us because FCPS only provides the athletic training personnel, not the supplies we need to help your kids. The money earned is used to purchase the supplies that allow us to help our student-athletes stay healthy and play to their highest potential. Every piece of gauze, glove, roll of tape, ice bag, bandage, nose plug, brace, crutch…everything you see us use is purchased through the funds earned at this annual event. Without your support we would not be able to provide the services we do for our student-athletes. Just for reference- 1 physical does not even cover the cost of 1 case of tape (we go through 80-100 cases per year).

Physicals are $50- payable by cash or check on site or pre-paid through MySchoolBucks prior to the event. All details will be provided in a confirmation email when appointments are made. Additional donations or ‘sponsorships’ for student-athletes who may not be able to afford this opportunity are always welcome. We ensure forms are complete and there are no issues (unless a doctor notices something that warrants further medical attention). All forms will be put on file so kids are ready to go- you’ll just need to complete online registration for whatever activity they choose.

Click here to make an appointment: 2024 Athletic Physical RegistrationYou will receive a confirmation email within 48 business hours of scheduling.

Any questions, comments, or concerns? Please contact Lisa Petruzzi (LTPetruzzi@fcps.edu).

Now we are seeking additional financial sponsors to increase print production for greater viewing and distribution.

If you are interested in being a sponsor, click HERE, which will take you directly to “Herndon’s Scribe Literary Arts Magazine” on MySchoolBucks. Simply choose your level of support. You can make your donation (purchase) by checking out as a guest.  Sponsor levels are:

From the Library

It’s hard to believe that the end of the school year is approaching so rapidly. Here are some important dates from the library:

  • Friday, May 17: all senior library materials are due. School accounts, including any outstanding library obligations, should be settled before cap and gown distribution later in the month.
  • Wednesday, May 29: all library materials from freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are due. This date applies for all FCPS schools.
  • Monday, June 2: students who will return to Herndon High School in the fall and whose library accounts are clear may check out books for the summer. These books can be returned during the first week of school in August.

As we encourage wide reading for pleasure, we also work with classes on developing research skills, and are available to meet individually with students. The library’s Schoology course has a variety of resources to help students find reliable information that they can use to create new learning.

The Herndon HS library welcomes students before school, after school, and during the school day with a pass. Students looking for a lunch option other than the cafeteria can often get a pass to spend their lunch block in the library. If we can answer any questions for you, please contact us at hhs_library@fcps.edu.

Register Today for FCPS Summer Camps

Registration for FCPS Career and Technical Education (CTE) camps and Institute for the Arts (IFTA/E-IFTA) camps closes on Friday, June 7. Tuition is waived for students eligible for free and reduced-price meals. Bus transportation is available from select FCPS high schools and middle schools.
