Community Gazette 5.12.24

Principal

Glasgow Parents and Community:

Greetings! On Saturday, our students had their middle school track meet at West Potomac HS! We are so proud of our middle school athletes!

  • Tuesday (Even Day): Math All Grade     Levels SOL Testing
  • Friday (Odd Day): Science 8 SOL Testing

Next week, your student will receive an “Intention Form” during their Panther Time class.  This form should be given to you to complete and return to Glasgow if you do not intend for your child to return to Glasgow next year and will go to a different school for 7th or 8th grade.  Knowing when students will not return to Glasgow for 7th or 8th grade helps us plan for the upcoming year.  It is very important for you to complete the form and return it to the school if your child will not be returning to Glasgow for 7th or 8th grade.  If your child will be returning to Glasgow or will not be returning because they are going to high school, you do not need to complete the form.  Forms should be returned to Glasgow by May 31st.  Thank you!

The 2nd Annual Little River Rumble Soccer Competition is approaching quickly. On Saturday, May 18th, 2024 Glasgow will host Holmes Middle School and Poe Middle School. The games will begin at 9 a.m. on the Glasgow field. If you’re free, come out and support our students as we compete for GOLD!

May 30th, 2024 will be the last day of After School. If you’re still looking for Summer fun and engagement for your student(s), VIP (Value in Prevention) still has space available. VIP Camp will run from July 1st through August 1st at Holmes Middle School. Camp hours are 8:30-3:30. Breakfast, lunch and transportation is provided. Here is the link to register your student(s) for VIP Camp.

Are you looking to improve your soccer skills, conditioning and teamwork all while having fun? Neighborhood and Community Services is offering a FREE soccer camp for ages 6-16, Monday-Fridays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. beginning June 17th, 2024 through August 9th, 2024 at Bailey’s Elementary. 🩹 Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders

Immunizations are required for all students entering 7th and 12th grades this fall. Visit the FCPS immunization webpage to learn about the required vaccines.  Caregivers should ask their private healthcare provider or the health department to review their student's immunization record to ensure that their student has received these required immunizations.

It is important to schedule immunizations early in the summer, as seventh grade students must submit documentation of the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines before they begin school in August. Twelfth grade students must submit documentation of the Meningococcal vaccine.

⛱️ Summer Camp for Middle Schoolers

All rising middle schoolers are invited to attend a summer of fun and leisure with VIP Camp. Registration is open. VIP Camp costs $100 to attend. Reach out to your school's after-school specialist for scholarship availability due to financial hardship. This camp is sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools and Fairfax County’s Department of Neighborhood and Community Services.

Social and Emotional Learning Screener Results Coming Soon

FCPS students in grades 3-12 took the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener during March, providing updated information on skills such as achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships with adults and peers, and making responsible decisions. The SEL Screener also helps students evaluate their school community’s efforts to make them feel valued, included, and supported.

In late April, individual student SEL Screener results will be available for families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent via postal mail.

Get more information about the screener on the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage. For support in understanding your individual student’s results or ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide
