Field Day!

Field Days are coming soon! These special events could not happen without our amazing parent volunteers. Kindergarteners will participate on Thursday, June 6, from 9:30- 11 am. First and second graders will play from 1-3 pm on June 6. On Friday, June 7, the fifth and sixth graders will join us from 9:00- 11:00 am. The third and fourth graders will participate from 1:15- 3:00 pm on June 7. The theme is Summer Olympics.

We need plenty of volunteers to make this happen for your children. Volunteers are asked to check-in outside of the main doors with their driver’s license. Please do not park in the bus loop and plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the field day start time. After checking in, volunteers will walk through the lobby to the blacktop. If you are available to supervise a station, please click here .

We will not be using regular water balloons this year, so we do not need anyone to fill and bring those in. We are looking forward to a great event for all students! Please send your child to school with a full water bottle that has their name on it. Sunscreen and hats are recommended as well. If you have any questions, please contact Jenny Murray at jbmurray@fcps.edu or Michelle Orban at morban1@fcps.edu.

Lots of engagement with Union Mill Students during field trips last week and third grade students having the opportunity to learn about various instruments as part of our strings program.

The final Family Fitness event of the year is happening on Thursday, May 16, from 3:45-4:45 pm in the gym.  We have fun games planned, one of which being the water balloon toss to get ready for field day.  Please contact Jenny Murray at jbmurray@fcps.edu, with any questions.  Thank you

Career Day

We are excited to celebrate career diversity this year at Union Mill! We will be hosting an in-person event during the school day on Monday, June 10th for all students. Please fill out the following form by May 17th if you are interested in sharing your career in a classroom presentation. While we hope to be able to accommodate all volunteers, please understand that we may need to utilize a lottery. We are still working out the details of presentation times for each grade level so we hope you’ll be flexible with us as we work out the format of the day. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Schmidt or Mrs. Kourajian.

Family Input for Class Placements 2024-2025

As we begin to plan for the 2024-2025 school year, we are inviting your input. Creating class assignments requires careful consideration and the involvement of many perspectives. We know a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success. Should you have additional information about your specific child that school staff may not know, particularly regarding learning style and classroom environment; you have the option to complete the  Family Input Form no later than Monday, May 20, 2024.

If you have more than one child attending UMES, please complete one form per child.

We ask that you do not request specific teachers and keep the information shared about your child and the type of learning environment you feel would be the most productive for him/her/them.  We assure you that with or without a form, each child’s social emotional and academic strengths and needs are considered. Families will receive class placement notification just prior to school starting in August.

May 31st SCA Spirit Day – Beach Day!

Break out your flip flops (unless you have PE!), flower leis and your tropical themed tees/shirts.  No swimsuits please 😊
