Atoms Weekly Recap

Here is a quick recap of first week of spring sports

Baseball had a tough week losing both games played. Monday the Atoms hosted Edison for their final game of the season. The Eagles were all over the Atoms coming away with the victory. Thursday was first round of the district tournament and saw the Atoms host the Majors. The Majors jumped out quick scoring 5 runs in the first inning. The Atoms hung tough cutting the margin to 8-6 before the Majors scored 5 more in the 7th to put the game away. The Atoms now move on the region tournament as the 5 seed and will play May 21.

Softball had to play the wait around game for their game vs Edison. Originally scheduled for Monday, the game was delayed until Wednesday evening. The Atoms played host to the Eagles and held an early lead before Edison's bats got hot and took off from the Atoms. The Atoms will travel to TJ Monday for the first round of the district tournament.

Boys Soccer were impressive in their two victories this week. Tuesday, the Atoms traveled to Mt. Vernon for their final district game and came away with a 5-1 victory. The win solidified the Atoms as the #3 seed in the upcoming district tournament. Thursday evening, the Atoms welcomed Freedom-Woodbridge to Annandale and sent them home with a 7-0 loss to complete their season. The Atoms host Justice in the first round of the district tournament Monday evening at 7:00pm.

Girls Soccer had a lot on the line Tuesday evening vs Mt. Vernon. Win and they become the 3 seed, tie be 4 seed at best, or lose and become the 5 or 6 seed. The question of what the night would become was answered early and often by the Atoms as they went up 3-0 early and coasted to the win to secure the #3 seed in the upcoming district tournament. The Atoms had one final game Thursday evening at Freedom-Woodbridge and ended the season strong with 4-1 victory! The Atoms host Falls Church in the first round of the district tournament Monday at 5:00pm.

Outdoor Track completed day 1 of the district meet with several Atoms having good performances in their respective field events! Day 2 resumes today at Falls Church.

Boys Tennis doubles teams play in the first round of the district tournament Monday and unfortunately both came away with losses to end their district season. The Atoms qualified for the region tournament and travel to Lake Braddock on Monday.

Girls Tennis had doubles Monday afternoon but couldn't pull through with both teams falling in their first round matches. The Atoms move on the region tournament at Fairfax Monday afternoon.

Boys Lacrosse traveled to Edison for the first round of the district tournament. The Atoms played tough in the first half but unfortunately couldn't keep up with the Eagles in the second half falling 14-4. The Atoms will now play in the region tournament Tuesday evening. Opponent is still TBD.

Girls Lacrosse traveled about 2 miles down Little River to TJ to play in the first round of the district tournament. TJ came out strong and ran away from the Atoms to win 17-5. The Atoms qualified for the region tournament and will travel to a Patriot District school Tuesday.
