taw-2024

Thank you, Centre Ridge teachers and staff, for inspiring a love of learning every day!

Dear CRES Community,

As we welcome Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week, we want to take a moment to express our profound gratitude for the incredible dedication and hard work of our educators and staff members here at Centre Ridge.

From the moment our children step into their classrooms, to the time they leave each day, our faculty goes above and beyond to ensure a nurturing and enriching learning environment. Their unwavering commitment to our students' growth and well-being is truly commendable and deserves to be celebrated!

We encourage you to join us in recognizing Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week from May 6th-10th. There are many ways you can show your gratitude: a heartfelt note of thanks, a small gift, or a simple gesture of kindness. Your generosity and thoughtfulness will undoubtedly brighten their week and serve as a testament to the profound impact they have on your children's lives.

Once again, thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we can honor the remarkable individuals who play a pivotal role in guiding our students toward a bright and promising future!

Warmly,

Dr. Hertzberg, Ms. Wu, Ms. Baugh, Ms. Helmer, and Ms. Ford

School Attendance: Make Every Minute Count!

To reward our families and students who continue to prioritize attendance, we will be raffling off $50.00 gift cards to Giant (Thank you, PTA!), as well as swag that has been gifted to us by Liberty Middle School and Centreville High School! We even have mini Ronnie Rams to give away!

All students will be entered into the raffle who have missed fewer than 10 days of school this year, and who arrive at school on time, every day. We will begin our tardy count today through the end of the year. Students who are participating in attendance recovery can be included if they are able to mitigate enough days to meet this criteria. (A TalkingPoints message was sent last night as a reminder.)

Let's make every minute of learning count until the last day of school!

Standards of Learning Assessment Dates

Please be mindful of these remaining dates.

Students, in grades 3-6, will be taking end-of-year state assessments in literacy, math, and science (grade 5). Thank you for considering your child's schedule so that they are able to get enough rest and be prepared each day.

☀️ Save the Date for the FCPS Summer Extravaganza

Don’t miss a day of family fun and learning at the FCPS Summer Extravaganza!

Stop by Woodson High School on Saturday, June 1, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., where students will be able to take part in engaging educational activities designed to spark curiosity and inspire growth.

Representatives from local businesses, Fairfax County Public Library, and the Fairfax County Park Authority are participating in the Summer Extravaganza. Community organizations, such as Neighborhood Community Services, will be at the event as well. All will have learning activities, tips, and helpful information for families. Enjoy face painting, food, music, a moon bounce, a petting zoo, storytime, and student performances — all at no cost!

Visit the Summer Extravaganza webpage for more details and register to attend. Registration is not required, but it's helpful for planning purposes.

🩹 Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders

Immunizations are required for all students entering 7th and 12th grades this fall. Visit the FCPS immunization webpage to learn about the required vaccines.  Caregivers should ask their private healthcare provider or the health department to review their student's immunization record to ensure that their student has received these required immunizations.

It is important to schedule immunizations early in the summer, as seventh grade students must submit documentation of the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines before they begin school in August. Twelfth grade students must submit documentation of the Meningococcal vaccine. Get more information on all student immunization requirements.

📞 FCPS Ombuds Provides Confidential Guidance

The Office of the Ombuds engages with families, students, and staff to offer resources and improve the experience of each and every member of the FCPS community. They work as an independent confidential resource to help get answers to questions, offer options to resolve concerns, and hear complaints regarding FCPS matters.

Anyone seeking assistance from the Office of the Ombuds may call 571-423-4014, email ombuds@fcps.edu, visit their webpage, or submit a question. Ombuds staff do not change or make decisions, policies, or regulations; take sides; or provide legal advice.

We love highlighting learning experiences that support the acquisition of Portrait of a Graduate attributes and skills across our classrooms!

"For classrooms to be cultures of thinking for students, schools must be cultures of thinking for teachers." Ron Ritchhart

Over these past two years, our literacy team has supported teachers with deepening their understanding of all aspects of structured literacy, illustrated within Scarborough's Reading Rope.

Let's commend our teachers for their commitment to refining their teaching practices, paving the way for our students to excel in literacy!
