Message from Mrs. Castillo

Global Classroom Project

Spring is in full swing!  Be sure to check the weather and send your child to school with layers this week - especially when testing!

Mrs. Callanen's 4th Grade Class participated in a Global Classroom Project collaborating with a teacher and class in Finland this year.  See photos above when two students explained their project at the showcase last week!

See below for pictures of our 5th graders and 2nd graders sharing their recent writing projects in the classroom last week.  Both grade levels had a great experience using their communication skills to share and listen!

Updates from the PTA

SAW

Staff & Teacher Appreciation Week will be celebrated at Lemon Road from May 6-10th and this year we are channeling our inner Swifties! We are excited to start showering our staff with love on Monday but it’s not too late to get involved and support where you can with time, money, or donations - all support is appreciated! Thank you!

Our May PTA Meeting will be on the 15th and will feature LRES alumni discussing the move to Middle School plus the Principals of both Longfellow and Kilmer - we strongly encourage our 5th and 6th grade families in particular to attend this meeting and bring your children so they get a chance to ask any questions they may have! The meeting is at 6:30pm in the Cafeteria with limited child care provided.

Lemon Road goes to DC United! Join us at Audi Field to cheer on DC United on May 25th - tickets are limited and are on sale now https://app.memberhub.gives/dcunited/Campaign/Details

Positivity Project: Leadership

Leadership

Next week, our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Leadership. Leadership means you value each member of your group and inspire people to do their best.

Leadership can be both formal and informal. It is concerned with getting others to do what needs to be done while maintaining group morale to ensure readiness to act in the future. This character strength’s focus is on the personal qualities of leaders rather than the practice of leadership. These qualities include the ability to understand others and inspire them toward a common goal, the capacity to mitigate conflict and mold consensus, and the desire to lead other people.

Bike to School Day - May 8

Lemon Road is joining groups around the world to celebrate the benefits of walking and bicycling on Wednesday, May 8. Ride your bike, scooter, roller skates, or wear your favorite walking shoes and WALK and ROLL with us to school!  Hike it.  Bike it.  You'll like it!♥
