1.Principal’s Message

Dear Families,

Saturday we celebrated three of our grade 6 students as they participated in the All County Chorus Concert at Hayfield Secondary School. The gym was filled with approximately 650 beautiful singing voices. We are proud of our Fairfax Villa students and music teachers who participated.

This week we showed our appreciation for our wonderful cafeteria staff!  Our cafeteria manager, Ms. Rhim and her staff are dedicated to providing quality meals to our students.  We appreciate all that they do!

Wednesday we enjoyed a wonderful spring “Bunnies” musical performance by our first and second graders. It was the hottest ticket in town! It was standing room only in our Villa gymnasium. As the children hopped and sang our audience could not help but join in the fun. Thank you to our music teachers and classroom teachers for their collaborative efforts in helping the students prepare.

This afternoon, we welcomed our incoming kindergarten students and parents for orientation. Parents gained an understanding of the curriculum, procedures, school wide expectations, and a day in the life of a kindergarten. I am so proud of our kindergarten team and staff members who supported this welcoming event. There is no greater compliment than to entrust us with the safety and the learning of a child.

It was a busy afternoon as our Young Scholars returned to school from their field trip to the National Museum of African American History and Culture and monuments in downtown DC. Students enjoyed a fun-filled, learning experience thanks to Ms. Wilkins and her vision for the Young Scholars model. Thank you to Ms. DeHart, Ms. Marsh, and the parents who volunteered to chaperone!

Next week we begin our main state assessments, the Standards of Learning (SOL) tests for Reading in grades 3-6.  Please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep, eats breakfast, and charges their laptop to prepare for testing.

Sincerely,

Shelia Sobeski

Interim Principal

3.☀️ Save the Date for FCPS’ Summer Extravaganza

Don’t miss a day of family fun and learning at the FCPS Summer Extravaganza!

Stop by Woodson High School on Saturday, June 1, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., where students will be able to take part in engaging educational activities designed to spark curiosity and inspire growth.

Representatives from local businesses, Fairfax County Public Library, and the Fairfax County Park Authority are participating in the Summer Extravaganza. Community organizations, such as Neighborhood Community Services, will be at the event as well. All will have learning activities, tips, and helpful information for families. 6.💪 Let's Finish the School Year Strong!

1

Student attendance at school is important all year long, up to the last day of school. Attendance has an effect on student performance and on school accreditation. See how to:

  • Check your child’s attendance record.
  • Help your student stay engaged at school.
  • Report future absences.
  • Understand the FCPS school calendar.

Learn more about attendance resources.

7.🩹 Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders

Immunizations are required for all students entering 7th and 12th grades this fall. Visit the FCPS immunization webpage to learn about the required vaccines.  Caregivers should ask their private healthcare provider or the health department to review their student's immunization record to ensure that their student has received these required immunizations.

It is important to schedule immunizations early in the summer, as seventh grade students must submit documentation of the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines before they begin school in August. Twelfth grade students must submit documentation of the Meningococcal vaccine. Get more information on all student immunization requirements.

2

Fairfax County Health Department is offering Immunization Clinics on May 9, from 4 - 8 pm at the Annandale location and May 16, from 4 - 8 pm at the Mt. Vernon location.
