principal's message

Hello Mustangs,

We hope you have had a fantastic start to the month. May is a fun-filled time for us as we usher in Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week, the testing season, and the progressive planning for end-of-year activities. In fact, our PTSO has been busy planning some exciting things for us. They include supporting Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week, Family Bingo Night (May 10), TGIT (Thank Goodness It's Thursday) After-School Event (May 16), and the PTSO General Meeting (May 22). Therefore, please mark your calendars, as we hope to see you there. As always, thank you for all you do, and please let us know if you have any questions, feedback, or concerns. Enjoy your weekend!

SOL Reminder

As we prepare for SOL testing coming up, please check with your student to ensure they have (and can locate) their school-issued laptop charger.  It is imperative that students bring their fully charged laptop AND their charger to school every day, especially on testing days to ensure that their laptop stays charged throughout testing.  If your student cannot locate their charger, you will need to purchase a new one ($23) via MySchoolBucks or the main office.  As a reminder, SOL testing starts May 7th.

Teacher Appreciation Week

The administration of South County Middle School wants to celebrate the wonderful staff members in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6-10).  Already we are providing our wonderful SCMS staff with a lunch on Wednesday and desserts on Friday.  To support additional surprises and treats throughout the week, please consider providing a donation and/or gift card to support daily teacher raffles. If you can donate, the best way is to use either Venmo or Zelle (QR Codes below) or you can send your donation to the main office in an envelope marked PTSO or give to any of the PTSO officers. Thank you for your support and please reach out to any of the officers if you have any questions.

Required Immunizations for

Rising 7th and 12th Graders

Immunizations are required for all students entering 7th and 12th grades this fall. Visit the FCPS immunization webpage to learn about the required vaccines.  Caregivers should ask their private healthcare provider or the health department to review their student's immunization record to ensure that their student has received these required immunizations.

It is important to schedule immunizations early in the summer, as seventh-grade students must submit documentation of the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines before they begin school in August. Twelfth-grade students must submit documentation of the Meningococcal vaccine.

Save the Date for FCPS’ Summer Extravaganza

Don’t miss a day of family fun and learning at the FCPS Summer Extravaganza!

Stop by Woodson High School on Saturday, June 1, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., where students will be able to take part in engaging educational activities designed to spark curiosity and inspire growth.

Representatives from local businesses, Fairfax County Public Library, and the Fairfax County Park Authority are participating in the Summer Extravaganza. Community organizations, such as Neighborhood Community Services, will be at the event as well. All will have learning activities, tips, and helpful information for families. Enjoy face painting, food, music, a moon bounce, a petting zoo, storytime, and student performances — all at no cost!

Visit the Summer Extravaganza webpage for more details and register to attend. Registration is not required, but it's helpful for planning purposes.
