Staff Appreciation Week

We are excited to give a huge shoutout to the amazing staff at Kings Park ES. From our rockstar teachers to our support staff superheroes, every single person on our team plays a major role in shaping our students' journey through education.

Our KPES staff pour their hearts into their work every single day. Their passion and hard work create a warm, supportive atmosphere where kids can thrive in every way possible.

Thank you for helping make this week so special with all the celebrations and kind words. From the awesome events put on by the PTA to the sweet notes and cards from parents and students, every little bit of love has made each day meaningful. Together, we're making Kings Park a place where every student can reach for the stars and shine.

Walk, bike or roll to school day

Walk, Bike and Roll to School Day, TOMORROW May 8th

Get ready for Walk, Bike, & Roll to School Day on May 8th! Walking and biking to school benefits both the students and the community in several ways. Students who walk and bike get more physical activity, have more time to socialize with their friends, and develop a sense of independence and self-reliance. The community benefits from reduced pollution and traffic congestion.

We encourage participants to plan a safe route in advance. A fun way to celebrate this day is to form a “walking train” with other Kings Park friends! Meet at the bike racks in the front of the building between door 1 and 2 at 8:20am to celebrate and receive a gift for participating! Then the students can proceed to their arrival entrance. Bus transportation will still be available and will follow the same route schedules. Kiss and Ride will still be available.

Meet Me at the Library - May 23rd

We are excited to be partnering with WETA and hosting our last Meet Me at the Library event for the 23-24 school year! This event is a  great opportunity for families to listen to stories, play some games, and participate in activities to promote literacy, math skills, and problem solving skills. On Thursday, May 23rd, families are invited to the Kings Park Public Library (9000 Burke Lake Rd, Burke, VA 22015) at 5:00 PM for an hour-long session focusing on Building Resiliency with some amazing Kings Park teachers and staff.

This workshop provides tools for teaching young children how to embrace mistakes and bounce back when things don’t go as planned. This is a free event for Kings Park students.  Every student that attends will receive a free book from WETA. We hope to see you in the Community Meeting Room at the Kings Park Public Library on Thursday, May 23rd at 5:00!

recycle eclipse glasses

Recycling Your Solar Eclipse Glasses

Now that the eclipse has passed, what do you do with the solar eclipse glasses that can’t be stored for more than three years? Through Astronomers Without Borders, local organizations are collecting eclipse glasses for reuse. They will be vetted, packed, and shipped to schools and groups around the world who are in the path of next eclipse but may not have a safe way to view it directly.

Below are 2 local drop-offs, or you can send them to Kings Park with your child.  Your child’s teacher will be directed to where the glasses are being collected.

  1. Trace Zero Waste, 140 Church Street NW, Vienna, VA 22180
  2. Marymount University c/o Dr. Alice E Petillo, School of Sciences and Humanities, 2807 N Glebe Road, Arlington VA 22207

Family Input for Class Placements 2024-2025

As we begin to plan for the 2024-2025 school year, we are inviting your input. Creating class assignments requires careful consideration and the involvement of many perspectives. We know a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success. Should you have additional information about your specific child that school staff may not know, particularly regarding learning style and classroom environment; we ask that you please complete the Family Input Form no later than Monday, May 13, 2024.

If you have more than one child attending KPES, please complete one form per child.  We ask that you do not request specific teachers or friendship pairings and keep the information shared about your child and the type of learning environment you feel would be the most productive for him/her/them. We assure you that with or without a form, each child’s strengths and needs are considered. As in the past, families will receive class placement notification just prior to school starting.
