A Message from the Principal, Dr. Jemison

We are thrilled to announce that our school has been awarded a grant from the FCPS Get2Green program! This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, who have shown exceptional commitment to environmental education. Throughout this year, our students have poured their energy into our campus garden, delving into topics such as composting, recycling, and the importance of protecting our planet.

One highlight of our curriculum has been the second grade’s exploration of the butterfly life cycle, a journey that has captivated their imaginations and sparked a newfound appreciation for the wonders of nature. Building on this momentum, we are excited to announce plans to enhance our school’s environment further. With the grants funds, we will be purchasing additional flower pots to adorn our entrance with vibrant blooms, creating a welcoming and eco-friendly atmosphere for all who enter. Moreover, we will be acquiring butterflies to inhabit these spaces, providing our students a tangible connection to the concepts they’ve been learning in the classroom.

This hands-on experience promises to deepen their understanding of the natural world and inspire a lifelong commitment to environmental stewardship. We couldn’t be prouder of our students and their dedication to making a positive impact on our planet!

Together we are and will continue to be Fort Belvoir strong!

Dr. LaZedrick (Zed) Jemison, Principal

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated Family Ambassadors and esteemed members of the Fairfax County Chapter of Omega Psi Phi, Fraternity Inc. for their invaluable efforts in organizing our recent food market. Their tireless commitment enabled nearly 200 families to receive vital assistance. Their unwavering support embodies the strength of Fort Belvoir, and underscores our school’s role as a beacon within our community. At Fort Belvoir, we not only speak of supporting families, but we actively demonstrate it through meaningful actions.

Military Support Services for Families

Fort Belvoir Primary prioritizes the mental well-being of its students and families, recognizing the unique challenges faced by military-connected households. One vital resource available is the Military and Family Life Counselors (MFLCs), who provide counseling services at no cost. These professionals offer a range of support beyond traditional counseling, understanding the complex dynamics of military life and its impact on families. Their presence underscores the school’s commitment to fostering resilience and emotional health among its community members.

Additionally, the school partners with licensed therapists from Fort Belvoir Hospital to offer Behavioral Health (BH) services through the School Behavioral Health (SBH) program specifically tailored to military families. This collaboration ensures that families have access to comprehensive mental health support within their immediate community. By leveraging these partnerships and resources, Fort Belvoir Primary school strives to create a nurturing environment where students and families can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Attendance Celebration at Fort Belvoir Primary!

We’re thrilled to see all the smiling faces in class each day! To celebrate this dedication, we’re recognizing classrooms with the highest percentage of perfect attendance each month. This month, we brought the fun with a splashtastic bubble party!

Get ready for more exciting rewards! Classrooms that continue to shine with perfect attendance will get to keep a cuddly dolphin mascot. Additionally, they get to participate in a special celebration. Keep up the fantastic attendance - we can’t wait to celebrate other classrooms' success during the month of May!

Memorial Day serves as a poignant reminder of the profound sacrifices made by the brave men and women who have served in the United States military, laying down their lives in defense of freedom and democracy. It is a day of solemn reflection, a time when the nation collectively honors the valor and selflessness of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

We extend our support and condolences to members of our school community who have lost loved ones in military service. In recognition of their sacrifice, we invite families to share a photo of their fallen heroes through the provided link HERE.  We will be collecting photos until Friday, May 10th. These photos will be gathered and assembled into a presentation to share on our office monitors with the entire school community. Additionally, we will share them with our school community, offering a moment of collective remembrance and gratitude for the lives that were courageously dedicated to the defense of our country.
