🎶 Spring Concert
 Thursday, students in band, strings, and chorus performed for their spring concert. We are so proud of these students for all the hard work and pratice they've put in at school and at home this year! It was such a joy for the whole school to gather together and watch their performance.
Mr. Johnson Slept on the Roof!
 Back in February, students participated in a Fun Run hosted by the PTA to benefit the Cameron Outdoor Classroom. Mr. Johnson told students that if the community could raise $5,000, he would sleep on the roof of the school. Our generous Cameron family ended up raising $14,000!!!
Last night, Mr. Johnson enjoyed the seasonably warm early May weather and slept on the roof! Did you spot his car in the parking lot this morning 👀? Thank you again to all those that contributed in making our fundraiser a success. We are always grateful for your support.
❣️May 6-10 Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week
May 7 is National Teacher Appreciation Day. Since 1984, National PTA has designated one week in May as Teacher Appreciation Week. National Teacher Day began in 1953 when former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt proposed that Congress set aside a day to acknowledge the work of educators. Since 1985, NEA has celebrated National Teacher Day on the Tuesday of the first full week of May.
At Cameron, teachers and staff will be celebrated in the following ways:
Monday: Breakfast in workrooms from PTA
Tuesday: Let love grow!
Wednesday: Snacks will be provided on a cart in the afternoon
Thursday: Lunch provided by PTA
Friday: Small tokens of appreciation from administrators and make your own trail mix.

🎉Lexia Popsicle Party
For the month of April, the goal for students was to complete one full unit in Lexia Core 5 (or 80 units in Power Up). 213 students met this goal! These students demonstrated P.R.I.D.E through Determination and Effort, and grew as Goal Directed and Resilient Individuals! We are blown away by our students' success. Huge shout out to Ms. Gillies, our Reading Specialist, for organizing the celebration, and empowering students and teachers to succeed.

🥳️Cheers to Cameron Cafeteria Staff!
 On Monday, April 29 at 8:30 am, members of the Food Nutrition Service Leadership Team as well as the FCPS Chief Operating Officer, Andy Mueck, visited our school cafeteria team. Cameron ES cafeteria staff was recognized as a top performing kitchen based on their skills, service, participation level and overall FNS excellence as determined by their FNS Operations Specialist. The team was presented a certificate of excellence, a thank you card and a fruit platter as tokens of food service appreciation to the entire team.
🍎Kindergarten Orientation
 Kindergarten Orientation was a success with over 60 families in attendance on Thursday night. The Kindergarten team can't wait to welcome our little Cheetahs next year!
🎨May 17 Creatives Night
Join us for the 3rd annual Creatives Night from 5:30-7:30pm! The night will feature student work from Art, Music, and Steam. Activities include construction, robotics, crafts, and games. Pizza will be served!

☀️ Save the Date for FCPS’ Summer Extravaganza
Don’t miss a day of family fun and learning at the FCPS Summer Extravaganza!
Stop by Woodson High School on Saturday, June 1, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., where students will be able to take part in engaging educational activities designed to spark curiosity and inspire growth.
Representatives from local businesses, Fairfax County Public Library, and the Fairfax County Park Authority are participating in the Summer Extravaganza. Community organizations, such as Neighborhood Community Services, will be at the event as well. All will have learning activities, tips, and helpful information for families. Enjoy face painting, food, music, a moon bounce, a petting zoo, storytime, and student performances — all at no cost!

🩹 Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders
Immunizations are required for all students entering 7th and 12th grades this fall. Visit the FCPS immunization webpage to learn about the required vaccines. Caregivers should ask their private healthcare provider or the health department to review their student's immunization record to ensure that their student has received these required immunizations.
It is important to schedule immunizations early in the summer, as seventh-grade students must submit documentation of the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines before they begin school in August. Twelfth-grade students must submit documentation of the Meningococcal vaccine.

Prismatic Services, Inc., an educational consulting firm, will lead the forums. All forums will deliver the same presentation and provide the same feedback opportunities. May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Since its inception in 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month has been a cornerstone of addressing the challenges faced by millions of Americans living with mental health conditions. Throughout the month, NAMI actively participates in this national movement, dedicated to eradicating stigma, extending support, fostering public education and advocating for policies that prioritize the well-being of individuals and families affected by mental illness.

Orthodox Good Friday/Teacher Work Day
Friday, May 3, is Orthodox Good Friday, and a teacher work day. Millions of Orthodox Christians commemorate Good Friday, also known as “Great Friday” to remember the events leading up to Jesus' crucifixion. There will be no school for students that day. See the complete school year calendar.

May 8 Bike to School Day
Bike Month has been celebrated since 1956 to showcase the many benefits of bicycling and encourage more people to give biking a try. Fairfax County has an extensive network of both paved and natural surface bike trails. You can access a map to all the trails in Fairfax county online. Wednesday, May 8, is the official Bike to School Day. You can register as a school, family, or neighborhood. Plan your ride whether you ride to school, to a park, or just within your neighborhood. National School Nurse Day
National School Nurse Day is Wednesday, May 8. It is a day to recognize the many contributions that school nurses make to student health and learning.
FCPS appreciates the role of School Public Health Nurses (PHNs) for their contribution to the health and welfare of all our students. Professional school nurses support the needs of students through their delivery of healthcare, contributions to local school communities, and promotion of safety, prevention, and wellness throughout the year. They are advocates who bridge healthcare and education by supporting student health and readiness to learn. School nurses are essential to our community and work tirelessly to make a positive impact in the lives of their students.
