Check out what is happening at Orange Hunt:
It was a bustling weekend for Orange Hunt students and families! We're proud to share that several of our students took part in the 6th-grade All County Chorus, showcasing their musical talents. Additionally, our students had the special opportunity to play instruments alongside Ms. Lynn for one of the songs in the performance. On top of that, our long-awaited Fun Run, rescheduled from the fall due to weather, finally took place this weekend. We had a fantastic turnout with many Orange Hunt students participating. We're excited to see even more join us in the fall for another round of fun! Way to go, Orange Hunt Owls!
Kindergarten Registration
We are starting to prepare for the 2024-2025 academic year. Children who will be five (5) years old on or before September 30, 2024, are eligible to attend kindergarten next fall. If you have a child who will attend kindergarten at Orange Hunt next school year, and you have not already been in contact with our registrar Lesley Hite, complete the new student intake form here to start the registration process: Kindergarten Registration
Please spread the word to your neighbors who don’t already have a child at Orange Hunt. Feel free to pass this information along or have neighbors with rising kindergarteners call the office at 703-913-6800 to be added to our kindergarten mailing list. Registration information will be provided to all families who complete and return this intake form. If preferred, you may request a mailed packet of registration forms by calling the office or emailing our registrar.
A child’s record of immunization, physical examination (within 12 months prior to entering kindergarten), proof of residency, and original birth certificate must be submitted when registering the child. For more information regarding kindergarten registration, you may visit the Fairfax County Public Schools’ website
Unique Opportunity
We currently have places available in our rising 2nd grade German Immersion class for the fall – this is a very unusual situation as there is normally a waitlist. If your student enjoys learning German and you are interested in joining the program, please reach out to Lesley Hite at laakofiohite@gmail.com by Tuesday 7th May. Please feel free to share with families in FCPS who may be interested.

Special Guest
We had the honor to host Science entertainer Jo Hecker on Friday. It was a special opportunity presented for us by the German Embassy. Jo Hecker is an engineer, author, and science journalist. With his science shows, he travels around the world, from Thailand to Alaska and Ethiopia to Siberia. He was able to share with our 1-6 German Immersion students. We hope he will be able to return to Orange Hunt in the future for all of our students. The student had a fun and engaging time!

Spring SOL Information
The Spring SOL season is upon us. All students in grades 3-6 are expected to take the SOLs online this spring. Teachers will be working to prepare students with content and testing practice. As parents, please try to avoid scheduling appointments on these days and help them understand the test is just one data point. They should do their best but try to not get overly stressed about it.
The Orange Hunt Testing Dates will be as follows:
**Make-up tests will be scheduled throughout the testing window for students who are absent on their initial testing date.
**Retests will be scheduled the week of May 28-31. Permission to retake is required if the student meets the retake criteria. Please see the permission explanation below.
SOL Parent/Guardian Permission to Retest Form
The Virginia Board of Education allows elementary and middle school students who fail their spring Standards of Learning (SOL) tests by a narrow margin to retake the test before the end of the school year. Retesting is available when a student fails their first SOL attempt with a score of 375-399. (A score of 400 is considered passing for SOL tests.) Note that retests are not offered for fall or winter Virginia Growth Assessment (VGA) tests or for the integrated reading/writing (IRW) component of the grade 5 and grade 8 SOL reading tests.
Parent/guardian permission is required for the school to retest any student in grades 3-8. If you believe that your student would benefit from a second opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills on the spring SOL test, please complete this electronic permission form. A decision not to allow retesting will not impact your student’s course grade or academic record.
Directions: Return this permission form electronically no later than May 1, 2024. A form must be returned for each student in grades 3-8.
